Have you ever noticed that mothers that breast feed seem to think that mothers that chose not to are the worst parents in the world. And mothers that go by the books and magazines and what is seen on their little TV shows always feel the mother that follows her instincts or "old school ways" are wrong. I must say.. I DID NOT BREAST FEED AND I AM DAMN GLAD I DIDNT MY SON IS HEALTHY DEVELOPING BEYOND HIS GESTIONAL AGE AND HAPPY I also feed him table foods just as our grandparents and parents did and we all survived!

Are son tested positive for strep. He has the strep diaper rash to go along with it. He was given amoxicillan (we're giving him lots of yogurt) but curious what specific type of ointment to use on the diaper rash. Forgot to ask at our appt today. Dont want to use anything that would make it worse.

My daughter will be six weeks old tomorrow. She already has reflux and is on .4 ml zantac twice a day and drinks Similac Alimentum formula (special formula for gassy/colic babies). We will see a GI specialist on Feb 12th as well. Now I am starting to think she has colic too. She has begun getting fussier and fussier. It begins in the afternoon, peaks in the evening and usually goes away between 10 pm( if I am lucky) and 1 am ( at the worst). Its alot of screaming, turning red, crying, straightening her legs out, and so forth. Every night I am bouncing, carrying her in the baby bjorn, walking the hallway, bouncing on the fitness ball, her swing, rocking her to help her. I also sometimes give her gripe water which is great, and I try mylicon but it does not seem to help much. I have tried just about every bottle too. She has no problem having BM diapers everyday. She takes the gumdrop pacifier. You would think they would have a cure for colic by now. Any other ideas on how to help?

I want to ween my daughter off of formula, should I wait a couple more months? I have spoken to other moms who said they took their kids off formula early too, but what is too early? I don't want her to miss out on nutrients from the formula but its so expensive!!!!

My baby had a bad cough for two weeks, we didn't go out until he got better. three days ago we went to my dad's house for his b-day. I made sure to bundle him up very well and I stayed inside the whole time because it was a little cold outside. Today he woke up with a bad cough, plegms and congestion. The doctor's medcation didn't seem to work. People say that when we're too overprotective they get sick more often. I'm confused and I think I'm just gonna stay home till the bad weather is over. It hurts me to see him like this.

I'm due to have my baby on 1st June and am thinking about feeding options. I know breast is best but the thought of it has always made me feel ill. I dont know why, I knows its natural and best etc so please dont jump on me for that. So I was planning on bottle feeding but I want to do whats best for the baby, I was wondering could I breast feed for the first week or so just so baby gets the collostrum then switch to bottle feeding or is it not worth doing it for that short a time? Would it just confuse baby. I know after the birth I may change my mind and want to breast feed anyway, but I'm not banking on it!
I'll talk it over with my midwife at some point but I'm not due to see her for a while so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any advice

I took my infant to the emergency room yesterday because she was vomiting, had a high fever (102.3), and lethargic. At the hospital, she also began to have diarrhea. After waiting for 4 hours to see a doctor, we were told that it was just a virus, keep giving her fluids and tylenol/motrin, and she would be fine.

Today, she is still vomiting, refusing liquids and formula, and she has already had 10 watery BM's. She also wants to sleep a lot more than normal (which I think is normal when someone is sick). She is not taking in as much as she is putting out with the vomiting and diarrhea, and I am worried about dehydration. I did the capillary refill test on her toe, and it took 5 seconds to return to pink (I was told to do it to check for dehydration).

My question is, should I take her back to the ER, with the risk that they will turn us away again, or should I wait until tomorrow to see our pediatrician? I have tried everything I know, but nothing works.

I know that every baby develops differently, but I feel like every baby I see knows how to mimic waving hello or goodbye. She's normal in all other areas of development. This probably seems like a silly thing to worry about, but that's what first-time moms do best...

I have a debate for school coming up on this topic, and just wanted to know what everyone else thinks about it.
Our topic is, do you agree or disagree that parents should be able to create the "perfect" baby if they can pay for it?
Our stance on the topic is that we disagree because of the high costs and poor quality of life for the child. What do you think?
