Just a few things that you can do to help a sick baby.
1. Get a humidifier for the baby's room. This will help with the congestion. Some have a place for things live Vicks Vaporub or an oil. A eucalyptus oil will help them breathe better.
2. Try the PediaCare Gentle Vapors plug if you have just a regular humidifier. This is a small unit, like a nightlight, that you plug in and slowly lets out baby-safe vapors. I use this with my daughter.
3. If your baby gets congested when sleeping in the crib at night, don't prop them up with pillows or blankets. Your baby could get tangled or suffocate. Try instead putting it underneath the mattress. This props it up on one end, but still keeps the sleeping area clear of harmful objects. This works like a charm. When my daughter was sick, she would only sleep when I held her, because she was propped up. So I did this and managed to get some sleep myself. Also, a drop of saline solution in each nostril suctioned out after a few minutes helps with the congestion.
4. Make sure you give them lots of fluids. Formula, plain water, diluted apple juice, and pedialyte all work. At 2 months old, I wouldn't give them anything other than those listed. Other juices aren't good for such young stomaches.
5. Last resort would be to medicate. I would only do this if your baby really seems to be suffering. The doctor won't perscribe an antibiotic for them because they don't work on colds. If you do medicate, call your doctors office first to find out how much to give the baby. All medications at that age are given by weight, not age.

You can never be too overprotective. If you believe that the meds arent working, dont be afraid to take your child back to the doctor. I know there is a new thing coming out called rsv. They really didnt have it when I was growing up but now I see it in all of the daycares. Your his mom. You only know best. Im one of those moms that waits while my kids are sick. usually after a week if they dont get better i take them to the doctor. If they fall and arent seriously hurt, they get up. I dont make a big deal out of stuff so they wont. If you are really concerned, take him back to the doctor. It won't hurt! Good luck

First of all...cold air does not make a baby sick..that is a myth. You should try to get a cool mist humidifier and put it in his room with the door cracked so that it will add some moisture to the air, especially while he sleeps. Heat dries the air out soo much, causing germs to grow, causing sickness. I also love Tylenol cough and cold. That is the best I've used so far. Good luck to ya.

Unfortunately, it is the season for colds and flus. I run a home daycare with children ranging in age 8 wks to 11 years old and almost all of them have had colds and coughs. Give him doctor prescribed medicine and at night, turn on a humidifer in his bedroom. This will help with his cough and congestion.

Dont be overprotective and you have to go out everybody gets cabin fever no matter what their age so if her is sick he may be allergic to something that he was around and if it persists then take your baby back to his pedi dr and let them know kids are funny my son had a cough that started after X-mas took to dr they said bronchitis then week leter after drs meds took back then he had sinusitis so meds for 2 weeks because he had a case of allergies that wouldnt let the mucus go anywhere and caused an infection now he is better. But also took my 13 month girl in dr said upper respitory no meds and now she is fine so doctors vary just like kids take him in and get him checked again it may be something more than crud

How long has he been taking the medication? Sometimes it takes a little while to start seeing a difference. Sometimes a little baby noses saline solution will help w/ the stuffy nose and it's not medicated so it won't hurt them. And we use a cold air humidifior at night.
Maybe a little baby vics on his chest may help.
I'd take him back to the doctor if he doesn't start getting better in 24 hrs. It's better to be safe than sorry. It's tough to see your child suffering. I hope he gets better soon!

well first--- you are going to have to give the meds some time to work, second--- i don't believe you can be to overprotective of your children, third--- make sure you prop up is bed so that it is easier for him to breathe at night (or if you have a bouncer chair you can put that in his crib and have him sleep in it), fourth--- babies do need to get sick, if thay don't they will get it alot worse when they get older. i know how hard it is to see your baby sick and feel so helpless( my son had rsv when he was 3 months old) but just remember that this "virus" will go away and you will have your lil' man back and better then ever. good luck

I understand your concern. However, I have always felt that we need to expose our children to some of the germs associated with common colds, flu's, things like that. I was always told that they are able to build up immunities that way. Has he got discolored "snot" coming from his nose? if it is anything but clear, that is a sign of infection, and you should probably get him checked again. I have never been a believer in the cold weather making us sick. In fact, I had my granddaughter out at midnight last night because she has croupe, and cold night air is very southing to a croup patient. I hope he gets to feeling better soon, but seriously, if his symptoms are different from what they were when the Dr. saw him last, I would call and get him back in there.

They say with RSV, you will see cold symptoms for a week or so, and then they all the sudden get worse...I would get your child checked for RSV as soon as you can.
Don't feel guilty, babies and kids get sick from time to time. Just make sure people wash there hands before holding/touching him, and don't let people to close to him that have cold symotons.
Hope you both feel better soon!
