Newborn & Baby - January 2007

I have asked various people including someone at britax and my health visitor and they all said the same thing, because its not safe. But no one can tell me why. My baby is sitting up confidently and is as tall as a 12 month old but quite slender. She is out growing her infant carrier as she has to have her legs scrunched up. I bought her a next stage car seat in readiness but i'm told its not safe. Why?

You always hear about maternal instict and love at first sight when it comes to parents, especially mothers, and their newborns. What if I don't feel an immediate bond to my 2 month old baby? I feel very guilty about it but I realize it's not my fault, and I still am attentive to all his needs of course and I would never hurt or neglect him.

Have other moms and dads experienced this??

This question is silly, but I have to ask. I'm 33 weeks with my first baby, and I have alot of braxton hicks contractions and achiness in my body in the past few weeks. How will I know when I am in labor? It's not something that I could miss, is it? I mean when it happens, I will for sure know, correct? I keep having dreams that I am in labor and have no idea.

My friend has a 6 month old and she cleans his ears out with a q-tip. She told me to do it to my 4 month old, but I don't think its good to stick a q-tip into her ear. She said they can't hear as good unless you clean theirs all the time, is she right? Do I clean her ears with a q-tip or do I just let the wax come out on its own?

That is pretty much the only chore he had to do all day.

This question is for parents. I know every book and magazine says that newborns should only have breastmilk or formula for the first four to six months. But I was wondering when did you actually start giving your babies things like jar baby food and rice cereal?

My daughter is 4 months and has learnt to roll back to stomach, but just hasn't mastered stomach to back yet. She did it once but thats it. The problem is, she rolls over to her stomach and plays for a bit but won't even try to roll from stomach to back. She gets frustrated on her stomach after a while, so I pick her up, and roll her on her back, and she rolls again. Any ideas on how I can get her to roll stomach to back?

Eden

I like it and my husband does too, but we don't want to sound to "out-there". Is it too hippieish? What comes to mind when you hear it?

Also, we are having a hard time with middle names. I like Grace or Faith, but don't want to sound religous, just unique. Any middle names to go with Eden.

i am noticing that here on yahoo answers...when a question is asked about formula or formula fed babies, the people who answer with a "breastmilk is better" answer always get thumbs down on their answer. why?

My 11 month old son is refusing baby food all together. He has stopped eating baby food. I have been feeding him soft table food and baby food since he was 3 months old. I would just give him table food, but if its not soft like potatoes he can't hold it down. He loves goldfish but after a few (1 at a time) he will start coughing or choking and then vomits it all back up. I don't know what to do. Any ideas.

i would like to hear responses from women who have had an epidural and c-section and then breastfed their babies. how long were you able to breastfeed? was it more difficult compaired to previous babies you might have had when you didn't have an epidural?
just tell me about your experience?

i have one son and am pregnant. my son was an emergency c-section and wasn't in me long enough to have had any drugs in his system. because of the way they cut into me i am being told that it could be risky for me to give natural birth. i'm hoping to alievate some of my fears. thanks for your help!

He eats plenty of food, but sees me as his walking, talking pacifier. (never wanted a plastic pacifier, none of our babies did, they used it as a toy) He does use a cup and has for many months.
Our other sons weaned at 15 months and 24 months on their own, but it was summer in both cases and they got really busy out of doors. I am pregnant and our 19 month old has some serious teeth! Lol
I have never initiated weaning and feel a little guilty, but I know it is time. He co-sleeps, as have they all, and nurses throughout much of the night. He doesn't have scheduled feedings, never has. I'm not sure how to distract him when we're all trapped indoors with the winter winds blowing out there.
When we go out, (library, market, etc.) he totally forgets about it. But when we're home, he wants to have a seat in my lap with a ninny. Lol
Thanks for your advice! :o)
