Some friends of ours just had their third baby, this is the only boy and i made them one of those tie blankets and got the baby an outfit, socks, and a little toy....Is this a good enough gift? I feel like means i made the blanket i should put more into it means they are pretty good friends with us, but they will know the blanket was made right, i hope they dont think it doesnt have a tag because its used lol maybe im over reacting? What do you think?

I got a handmade knitted blanket and a beautiful handmade quilt for my son when he was born. I was touched that these people were thoughtful enough to spend their time making such a gift. They were my two favorite gifts and my son who is now three still has them in his room. The lady who made the quilt was a friend of my mom's who I had never met. She actually monogrammed my son's name and his birthdate into the botton of the quilt. Even though the birthday was a day early I was still incredibly touched and it didn't really matter that the bday was incorrect. The thought behind it was what mattered. If you are concerned that she may think it is second hand perhaps you could monogram the baby's name as well? Either way I think it is an incredibly generous and thoughtful gift and if your friend has a problem with the gift there is something wrong with her. You are incredibly generous to do that for her.

If they are friends of your I'm sure they would know you wouldn't give them a used gift. But have you ever seen those little tags at the fabric store they say"made by". I would appreciate something hand /home made. Since you took the time to do it. As for the rest of the gift I think its fine. If you are really concerned ask them what they need or if they have a baby registry at a store so you see what they need. All in all don't worry.

It's a wonderful gift. I actually received a blanket (handmade) as one of my shower gifts. I loved it sooo much that I wouldn't use it. My son is nearly 3 yrs old now and it's never touched his skin or anyone elses! I don't want it to get messed up. It is something that I will pass down in generations to come!! Don't feel bad about any of this.. everything you got for the baby is excellent !!!

People who made blankets for us put either a fabric pocket, or just wrote on a corner of the blanket "Made by ______ for _______" I give blanket for new baby gifts (I'm not gifted enough to make them myself) which I take to an embroiderer and have the baby's first and middle name and birth date embroidered on the blanket.

That is a lovely and thoughtful gift. You should mention on the card or in person that you made the blanket. I think they will appreciate it very much. I would.

It's a wonderful and thoughtful gift! If you have a little extra $$, however, you might throw in a few practical things that they could use. Diapers, medicines, bottles....things that the baby will use regularly that the parents could keep on hand. Those little things add up for new parents and are always as welcome as the tons of clothes that are usually received as gifts.
