Wait until at least she has her first round of vaccinations - the doctors I work for won't pierce a baby's ears before that. She should be 7-8 weeks old then. The younger you do it, the more risk of keloid scars (those are those nasty raised red scars) - that happened to my niece, she had them done at 4 months old, and had to take them out and ended up repiercing them when she turned 2 years old.

No harm in getting their ears pierced, not sure if they will do it that young, I know in Canada, they don't pierce baby ears until they are 2 months, and have had their first set of needles. But if you can get them done, they do it, just make sure you keep them clean and use 14 q. gold earrings. My daughter is 4 months and I got hers done when she was 3 months. You can get stuff from the pharmacy (in canada anyways) called Emla, and it will numb the ears, you put it on a half hour before they get their ears done. My little one didn't even cry, didn't even feel it. And the doctor said it was perfectly fine to put that on her ears. I spent 6 weeks cleaning them and she didn't mind at all. They say to get them done early as possible, that way they won't play with them, the younger the better, they just become natural to them and they won't pull on them.

Why don't you let your daughter decide if she wants piercings when SHE is old enough to make the decision? If you can't tell if she is a boy or a girl, buy more pink or something. But putting a hole in her ear should be her decision not YOUR fashion choice. If it is safe or not is not the only question you should be asking.

At 3 weeks old this is CHILD ABUSE. Any reputable piercer will call the cops on you.
This is a BABY, not a dress-up doll. You don't treat her like you did your barbie dolls, and put different outfits on her just to make her look cute. You nurture her, protect her, feed, love, clothe, and shelter her. This is a human being, not a fashion accessory.
Then, when she's 12-14 years old or so, you let her bring up the subject of piercing. Maybe by then she'll be old enough and mature enough to decide if she wants her ears pierced.
Oh, and notice that even you said "her ears". Keep that in mind - they are HER ears, not yours. Let the decision be hers.

Yeah, it's safe. I know of a girl that had her ears pierced the day she was born.

My daughter was 6 when SHE decided to have hers done. If I had it to do over, I would have waited until she was even older! I am still having to help her take care of them. I personaly couldn't have done that to her as a baby. I couldn't stand to see her cry for her shots and that's something that HAS to be done. She always looked at me like, "why are you letting them do this to me?" I don't think I could have stood there and watched her cry in pain for something that made her look cute as a baby. There's plenty of time for the her to be a girl and do girly things!

Its safe but it is NOT NICE! I hate it when i see a baby with their ear pierced! Let the poor girl decide for her self what holes she want to put in her body and wait until she's old enough to look after her ears herself. Otherwise you'll spend the next 6 weeks cleaning her ear lobes with salt solution and you might hurt her whwn you try and take them out. Seriously dont do it. Let her make her own decisions.

By all means do it. I had my daughters done at 5 wks. When I asked her Dr. where to get it done.He said either at his office or a place you can trust. She was young enough to never have the thought of bothering her ears, she never knew any diffrent. She is now 5 and we love to go shopping every year for her birthday to find her special earings. Goodluck!

It could lead to infection if you don't clean it. Clean it with rubbing alcohol or special cleaners for ear piercing and you should be fine.
