Are son tested positive for strep. He has the strep diaper rash to go along with it. He was given amoxicillan (we're giving him lots of yogurt) but curious what specific type of ointment to use on the diaper rash. Forgot to ask at our appt today. Dont want to use anything that would make it worse.

The amoxicillin should clear up the strep in a day or two, but until then, depending on the severity of the rash I would use hydrocortizone cream. Do not use your usual "diaper rash" ointments as this is not a diaper rash and it will irritate the skin. The hydrocortizone cream will help ease any itching and discomfort without irritating the skin or interacting with the antibiotics. If the rash is severe call your doctor back, thats what they're there for.

Use a thick ointment such as Desitin or Balmex on your baby's bottom. It helps protect the skin. Apply after each changing...CHeck with doctor first!!
