I know you are tired and really want unintrupted sleep, but your child is waking for a reason. Three month olds do not have the nuerological maturity to self sooth and put themselves back to sleep when waking. The best way to get as much night sleep as possible is a combinaiton of ways:

1. For the next few days keep a record of child's intake. How many ounces she/he eats, how many times a day he/she eats.
2. Notice sleep periods during the day: how long they are asleep at each rest period and if the wake hungry, ready to play, or just needing affection and love.
3. Enusure your child is getting your doctors recommended amount of nutrients, at this age is is 18-24 ounces in a twenty-four hour period.
4. Using 10-15 minutes of stomach lying floor time within one to two hours before bed, last bottle and losts of love affection and general stimulation, usually stimulates the nuerological system.
5. Provide quite time, soft music, dimmed lights, quite voices, swaddline to settle into sleep and during wake periods, ( IF FEED, DRY, and WELL the child should return to sleep)

Newborn babies don't know the difference between day and night yet - and their tiny stomachs don't hold enough breast milk or formula to keep them satisfied for very long. They need food every few hours, no matter what time of day or night it is.

You can help adjust your baby's body clock toward sleeping at night by avoiding stimulation during nighttime feedings and diaper changes. Try to keep the lights low, and resist the urge to play or talk with your baby. This will reinforce the message that nighttime is for sleeping. Overly tired infants often have more trouble sleeping than those who've had an appropriate amount of sleep during the day. So, keeping your baby up in hopes that he or she will sleep better at night will not necessarily work. So don't skip those naps when baby needs them, but do maybe try to keep him/her up a little longer during the day. Stimulate the baby with activities such as baths, "tummy time" which is what I called it....so they can practice using their neck muscles. good luck...most often babies just need the sleep and unfortunate for us mothers...we do have to be inconvenienced for a little while. Its just the perks to being a mother! HAve fun!!!!

Your baby doesn't necessarily need to be sleeping through the night at this age but I do understand the sleepless nights! Try to keep your baby awake more at the end of the day like after 5 as much as possible. That's what I did with my son and it worked but I really don't know if it was because of what I did or he just did it on his own.

But do realize your baby will end up doing this on it's own no matter what you do and it could take up to 5 months.......Just because other peoples babies are sleeping through at just a few weeks or 2 mo doesn't mean your baby should too.....

Let me know if you have any good answers to this one...my 3 month old sleeps in four hour blocks...in the last week he has graduated to 5 hour blocks.

Some people will tell you put put rice cereal in their bottle...but honestly...it may not be "hunger" that is waking the baby...it could just be an immature sleep cycle that will correct itself with time.

I gave my little guy rice cereal once and it took three days for him to poop it out and it didn't make him sleep any longer at all...he slept heavier....but not any longer. I don't think rice is a good idea.

I would advise to just hold on...they'll make it soon enough. His behavior is perfectly normal for his age...

Good luck :)

Ummm....they're not supposed to sleep through the night at this age. If they are breast feeding, they need to eat every 2-3 hours. If bottle feeding, every 4 to 6 hours. To expect them to sleep instead of getting the nutrition they need, is unrealistic.

Also, many people advocate putting cereal in with their milk. This is not a good idea. Their little tummies are not yet ready to digest solid foods as they haven't fully developed all the enzymes they need for this process.

At 3 months old babies still need to eat at night because their stomachs are too small to hold enough food to last them all night. As long as your baby is waking up, eating, and then going back to sleep nothing is wrong. Don't start adding baby cereal to the bottle before the baby is 4 months old. Before that they can't digest the cereal and will cause stomach gas and pain and sleep less.

more and likely your baby isn't going to sleep through the night... from birth to about 4 months they need to wake up and feed.... so i wouldn't worry to much about it.. i know you are getting sleepless nights but unless you get a special child that sleeps through the night.. i wouldn't worry about it right now... some of us are lucky and some of us are sleep zombies.... so goodluck and hopefully your baby will start sleeping for you soon enough

Unfortunately, there is no great way to get your child to sleep through the night. My son was colicky and didn't start sleeping all night until almost six months.

You could ask the pediatrician for advice and you could also bring your child to bed with you.
