I have PCOS due to insulin resistance. I will start a glycemic index (GI) diet. I am not obese but I am overweight. The GI will be accompanied by daily exercises. I understand that the diet includes minimizing the carbohydrates intake. However, not all food labels mention the GI of the food. White bread, pasta, potatoes, are high GI foods. Other foods are not classified as high GI foods even though they have high carbohydrates content. I understand that the GI is determined based on (1) the carbohydrates content and (2) based on how fast the carbohydrates break down into glucose and delivered to the blood stream. My question is how do you determine if this food is high in GI and the other is not? Is looking at the carbohydrates content enough? If so, what carbohydrate content (per serving) should be considered as a threshold to consider the GI high? How can I resolve this dilemma with rule of thumbs or easy guidelines?
Thanks all.

just love pregnant bellies? I do!! In fact, since finding out I'm pregnant, I can't stop looking at them, lol! Does anyone else have any pics they'd like to share? I have a small slide show I don't mind sharing. How far along are you? What is your due date?

She has a fish and a hamster, now she wants a dog. Other than labs and retrievers, what would be a good dog? No toy breeds please. The smallest I'll go for is a Yorkie; the largest is a Rottweiler. I don't care if it's a mutt or a purebred.

My last 2 cycles were reguler (Sept 12 & Oct 11) well I missed my af last month (Nov 9) but around that time I had cramps for days but af never showed, around my ovulation time I had mild lite cramps, I test 17 dpo with a $ tree hpt which came back (-), well threw the main time I had thick white cloudy mucus, On Monday I wipe and I had cm, brown and light pink spotting, on Tuesday I had light pink spot with mucus again, last night I had sex but af still haven't come by as yet, well earlier this morning I wipe and there was only light brown spot now later there isn't no spot.

I have itchy breast, for a few weeks I had Nasseua, last night all of a sudden my head started to spin (dizzy) anyone ever felt like this and had a (-) hpt but were pregnant?

I am 34weeks and 5 days pregnant with #1. I know he is a BIG boy and running out of room and all the little kicks and jabs are now going to be wiggles and rolls..BUT I haven't felt him move all morning. I ate breakfast and usually after that he is active for a little while...but this morning, nothing. I saw my doctor just 2 days ago and don't want to be the woman who calls him for everything but what can I do? Should I go to L&D and hook up to a fetal monitor for a while? Or what? Any advice would help! Thanks!

Our now 8 year old son was potty trained right when he turned 3. We both worked and started late on him. It took only a week for him - my wife started the week she quit her job. Now we have a 15 mo. old boy. Gives all the signs of readiness. We are using the lock down and go nowhere for however long it takes, do a lot of laundry and cleaning accidents, cotton training pant method. Rewarding only with praise. Diapers only at night and when leaving to pick up our oldest son from school.
We are constantly reminding him and pointing where his business goes and sitting him down regularly on the potty. It's been so long between the kids - any tips?

My friend had a little girl 2 weeks ago and today @ her 2 week check up she was told that the CF test they do in the hospital @ birth came back positive and they are re-testing and she will have results in 3 weeks. They also told her there is a high "false positive" rate.
Has anyone heard of this?
I am a CF carrier, and had to go to genetic counseling when my husband and I were in infertility treatment (he ended up not being a carrier) and never heard of this screen on infants...do they do it to them all? Are there false positives?? I just want to ease her mind.

My boyfriend and I have been together for a little over a year and he has a 2 year old daughter. I met her when she was 9 months old, so when we would get her on the weekends I was the mommy figure. Now that she is 2 she knows who mommy is and who I am, which I'm fine with that, it keeps mommy off my back. The problem is that she takes to women really easy, but not so much guys. So when she is over at our house she only wants to be around me not daddy. Diaper/potty training, feeding, playing, putting her to sleep all she wants is me to do it. Some weekends are better then others but these last two have been horrible. He has asked me to take her home both weekend because the whole way home she asks for me then when she see mommy she starts crying for her and he really can't take that emotionaly(sp). She doesn't act that way with the moms boyfriend. I've told him that I would work on the weekends just so he can have alone time with her but he says no. What should we do?

I'm just curious, I hadn't really thought about it that much but I have an 8 week old baby. I am planning on waiting 18 months before TTC again and I wanted to see what other women did after c-section, since you are encouraged to wait around 18 months to make sure you're fully healed.

Pardon, but I'm asking here b/c I get few answers in the Preg section:
I'm about 35-37 weeks; my belly is as hard as a rock; how long did this last before real labor kicked in? I'm also experiencing a constant pain; period like cramps; but it's constant... the baby's movements hurt and my back hurts too.

DH and I were NOT intending to get pregnant right now, since money is extremely tight, but that's life, eh? Anyway, I have a lavish (ha!) budget of $400.00 over the next six months to buy baby supplies.

My inlaws offered to buy a new carseat with all the current safety features. I can get a lightly used crib that complies with current safety recommmendations from a friend for free. I can sew well and am more than willing to make sleepers, receiving blankets and the like, if I can't get hand-me-downs.

Would love to know what other low-budget mothers have done for baby supplies. What are the ABSOLUTE essentials? Is there anything, other than a carseat, that MUST be purchased new?

I have no problems at all with second hand stuff, as long as it's safe and serviceable, and I don't care in the least about logos, brand-names, or matchy-matchy baby stuff.
