Pardon, but I'm asking here b/c I get few answers in the Preg section:
I'm about 35-37 weeks; my belly is as hard as a rock; how long did this last before real labor kicked in? I'm also experiencing a constant pain; period like cramps; but it's constant... the baby's movements hurt and my back hurts too.

The reason I bounce back those two weeks is b/c my doc has two diff dates for me.. One from the sonogram, and the LMD.. The nurses always give me diff weeks when I have my appts.

you are just practicing for labor

when it's time you'll know.....and if the contractions continue for hours then no harm done in heading over to labor and delivery for a check

Sounds like braxton hicks to me. You'll have them all the time off and on until you give birth. The rock hardness is a contraction, and its normal.

Its not a sign of labor coming on.

You need to see a doctor to know where you are in your pregnancy, 2 weeks is a huge difference. At 35 weeks your baby has a lower chance of a long term healthy life as its not fully developed if you gave birth now it would be high risk, at 37 its full term and fully developed and can be born safely.

The period like cramps are normal, its the feeling of the cervix being irritated by the placement of the baby, or because its effacing.

Either way, you should see a doctor since it sounds like you're a little up in the air on the whole thing.

Don't freak out; I had constant Braxton-Hicks at the end of my pregnancy and my belly always seemed hard, but I didn't have her until 2 days after I was due. Call your Dr. about the cramps though. I don't think that's too normal. It's not common to go into labor as early as 35 weeks.
