There are numerous options for the type of water to use to mix with powdered infant formula. Any bottled drinking water is fine provided it does not have any additives in it. Look for the words distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis filtered. Boiling tap water that has come from a community water supply than cooling it to room temperature is also an acceptable type of water. If your tap water is from a well, have it tested before giving it to an infant. Boiling tap water from a well is not always guaranteed to eliminate impurities. Sometimes there are nitrates present and boiling actually condenses the nitrate concentration.

You can use tap water even if you have a well, despite what someone else said. It is perfectly safe as long as you have no water problems or a preemie or immuno-compromised baby. You need to have your water tested, which is relatively cheap and if you have a well you should do it on a regular basis anyway. Tap water usually has fluoride in it which is good for developing strong teeth (even if they haven't broke through yet). If you have city water, you can go to or call the town hall and ask about water tests. You have a right to see them. If you have well water you can look in the phone book for a lab that will test it. Another good source of information is your child's pediatrician. Many pediatrician's believe distilled, bottled water is unnecessary unless your baby has an illness, etc. If you have city water and it smells or tastes of chlorine (as a lot of places do) you can fill a container and let it sit out overnight. This usually helps.
I used our well water (which is quite good and beats out city water anyday) with our daughter. I only used bottled water if I was going out and it was just regular bottled water. I hope this helps, Good Luck!

Any bottled water is fine or you can boil tap water. The bottled water is more convenient and is inexpensive, whatever is your choice.

If you're in the US and don't have well water, you don't need bottled water. Use tap--it's actually healthier for them in the long run because it helps them build up antibodies. If you do have well water, you don't need nursery water--any bottled water except distilled is fine. Distilled is not for human consumption and will shut down the kidneys.

You don't need bottled water, you can use boiled water.
Boil a large kettle of water and let it cool...use the water from that.
That was recommend to me from my pediatrician. My daughter is 9 months old and we are still doing that.

I have never heard that it was necessary to use bottled water in the US. If you are not in the US, use any pasturized water that contains no flavoring.
