My friends child refuses to study. Nothing seems to work, restriction, taking toys away, no tv or other activities, Nothing seems to motivate this child to learn how to read. He is in second grade and refues to learn.. He's a bright child, but will sit and fight with his mother during homework. Its not like its a learning problem, but more about him not wanting to work. Same thing when he's playing a game and he's losing.. He just gives up and walks away, not caring about anyone else. What can be done to help this child and his monther for that part.

What is your personal experience or opinion about using a small dab of alcohol (like Vodka or Scotch) on a q-tip for a teething baby's gums? I know some people will be adamantly against it and others will swear by it, but what are your reasons? Do you believe it is harmful or is a drop on a q-tip more beneficial for pain relief than it is harmful? Has it worked for your babies?

First of all, his father is a good father. He goes to every activity the child in involved in. He is at our home everyweekend. We take him places and do things with him a lot. Second, he has a room at the house. It is the room he requested origionally. It is just not the room he now wants after my daughter has moved into it. Does this change any of you opinions?

I am doing a report in one of my college classes on school violence and I need to know how children and their parents feel about school violence and security. Also it would be helpful to know how your childs school is preventing school violence. Thank you Wendy Russell

I can get her to sleep but the last couple of days her naps were too short. She's up in the morning around 7am and her first nap is around 9 or 9:30. Then her second nap at around 2:00. Then she's down for the night around 8:00. She wakes up now once or twice only for her pacifier. The last couple of day her naps during the day have only been for 30 min or so. I know that her daytime naps should be 1hr to 1hr 1/2. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm no longer rocking her to sleep nor am I using breastfeeding to get her to sleep. We're trying to teach her to fall asleep and stay asleep in her crip.

Please don't advise obvious things such as going to a park, coloring or reading with him, buildling towers out of blocks, baking with him. I'd like some unique ideas. Thanks.

I'm wondering because most people did, yet 500 times a day there are people on here with a question like this: I had sex on February 12, 2007 and now my period is late. Am I pregnant? Ok, if you took sex ed. wouldn't you know the answer to your own question? I know that some people are on here with genuine questions about pregnancy, getting pregnant, and taking care of their kids, but what is up with all of the "Am I pregnant?" questions. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY WE COULD KNOW. 99% of us aren't doctors. Just because you don't have a period does NOT mean you're pregnant. If you have unprotected sex, YOU WILL GET PREGNANT. Maybe not this time, but if you keep on you will. Anyways, so basically my question is how many of you took sex ed.? Thanks for reading my rant!

I'm very concerned about a friend of mine. She has not had a period since Nov. or Dec. She recently had an abnormal pap but never told the doctor that she was late. She has taken many pregnancy tests but they all come back negative. Could these be signs of something more serious. I told her she should call her doctor but she doesn't think that she has anything to worry about and is thinking of waiting another month before contacting her doctor. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am seven weeks pregnant and work in an adult surgical ICU. I work night shift, two 12-hour shifts per week. I would like some advice from other nurses who worked while pregnant and what they did to protect themselves from the bugs and other hazards at the hospital? Thank you!!

I am from the US and my husband is from Venezuela. I have wanted to name my next son Cruz since even before I was pregnant. The problem is that apparently, in the Hispanic culture, Cruz is used mostly for women, and older women at that. In the US, I have only ever heard it used for guys. A recent example of Cruz for a boy (although I only learned about it AFTER I had already decided I liked the name) is the Beckhams - David Beckham and his wife Victoria named their third son Cruz.

Our other choice is Landon, but I'm afraid it is too similar to our other son's name, Lance.

Does anyone have any reaction, feedback or suggestions? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who is familiar with Cruz in the Hispanic culture and the implications of naming a boy with a traditionally feminine name - that seems to be my husband's biggest hang-up with the name. THANKS!!

I live in West Virginia. My son was born 3 months ago, and I have his social security card, but I do not have a birth certificate for him. How do I get it?

Also, how much money would it cost to change his middle name? And would I need the birth certificate in order to do that, or could I just use the social security card?

Any information would be helpful!!

I just read on the internet that a company is now selling a home test that checks breast milk for alcohol. I can understand wanting to go out with friends and get a drink, but do we really have that small amount of self control? Can we not sacrifice for our children? Aren't they worth everything?

I was sedated, and have been on hydrocodone, ibuprofen, and penicillin for the last week. I just found out I was pregnant this today, and I was wondering if I should be concerned about all of the drugs I have been putting in my system and the fact that I was sedated during the procedure.

When my boyfriend and his wife divorced, she got custody of the kids. She took all of the kids stuff with her. When I met him, all the bedrooms were empty (not even a bed) except his. I have recently moved in and my children were each given a bedroom. His 12 year old son is that he does not get to keep his bedroom. His dad tried to talk to him but the boy is too angry to even try to understand. What is your opinion?

I am writing a paper on spanking children and I am to be in the pro view (in favor) of spanking even though I am actually against it. I need a few things to get me started.

1. Does anybody know where I can get some resources for this? All the ones I have found are against spanking.

2. I need 3-4 points to focus on in the paper, what could they be?
I really can't think of any points that I could focus on and write paragraphs about.

3. What are your views on spanking?
