We actually just had an incident this past month where my daughter's school had to go on lock down because there was a high school kid walking around with what appeared to be a gun outside. It turned out to be a air rifle gun (bb gun), but in this day and age you don't have any clue on what is real or not. They did not call any of the parents to let them know what was going on. It was at the end of the day. They locked all the outside doors getting into the building. All the children were in their rooms. All the shades were dropped and the doors to each classroom was locked. I even think they covered the glass on the door with something so nobody could see through. On that hand I think if something was really going on outside they would have been safe. There were police officers there immediately from 3 communities, plus our state officers were there. I think everything was perfect in this case. I only wish they would have contacted the parents, because all the busses were 1/2 and hour late and if I didn't find out about it from another parent I would have been wondering where she was.

I feel the elementary my children attend now is far safer than the one closer to me (I transferred them out of district). The "No Child Left Behind" law is really damaging some community schools. The bully situation in the school closest to me is way out of hand because they bring in kids from bad areas to support this law. The law was supposed to improve schools in bad areas not bring down good ones but this is happening everywhere. I have several friends who now home school because the problem is getting so bad. Middle School and High School are even worse my Daughter's High School leases a portion to the local police department but now the police just bully the kids. These are middle class kids and the police there treat them like a bunch of inmates - it is chilling how hostile the environment is. I think the school and police are making school unbearable for these kids. After many attempts to reconcile issues with the district I allowed my daughter to go to the local college for her diploma and she is now enrolled in college but I am sad because she missed out on so many things that go with High School like Home Coming and Prom. The situation in schools is brought on by the lack of concern the district display for our students. Teachers and their superiors are in it to get paid and they really don't care. They over all sentiment I kept getting is the kids are the problem and they need to be kept in line. They quote "zero tolerance" but only punish the victim and they call the bully misunderstood it is absurd. Something has to be done but until I know what it is I will keep a close eye on options to keep my children safe and well educated.

I feel completely safe in my child's school and in their ability to protect my child. I live in a very rural area and there are only about 160 kids K-12 so it is one of those communitites where everyone knows everyone and I have to say that my kids go to school everyday and I don't worry about them at all while they are there.

i've got self belief risk-free in my college simply by fact i know it relatively is a secure college ecosystem. i do no longer tend to be on my own and that i've got confidence all of my instructors, and that i've got a large volume of pals. i do no longer work together lots with scholars who do basically no longer seem honest or get into hassle regularly. My college, regardless of the actuality that it has over seven hundred human beings, is an relatively close-knit community. If all people replaced into seen with a weapon, etc. somebody might rfile it.
