I am from the US and my husband is from Venezuela. I have wanted to name my next son Cruz since even before I was pregnant. The problem is that apparently, in the Hispanic culture, Cruz is used mostly for women, and older women at that. In the US, I have only ever heard it used for guys. A recent example of Cruz for a boy (although I only learned about it AFTER I had already decided I liked the name) is the Beckhams - David Beckham and his wife Victoria named their third son Cruz.
Our other choice is Landon, but I'm afraid it is too similar to our other son's name, Lance.
Does anyone have any reaction, feedback or suggestions? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who is familiar with Cruz in the Hispanic culture and the implications of naming a boy with a traditionally feminine name - that seems to be my husband's biggest hang-up with the name. THANKS!!

Cruz means Cross in Spanish. It is a feminine name in Spanish culture but I don't think that shoudl stop you from naming your son whatever you like. I think if you live in the U.S. your child will have no problem but if you have alot of his family around & you will bein Venezuela often then it may be a problem with him getting teased.
I love the name Landon.
How about
Jaydon
Spencer
Chase
Tristan
Cole
Caleb

I like it. In the 80's there was a soap opera Santa Barbra the lead male was Hispanic his name was Cruz. I am Hispanic and I have never heard it used for a woman. I do think Landon is also a great name and would go nicely with your other sons name.

I am hispanic and two of my cousons(guys) are named cruz otherwise i would have named one of my sons that name. it is most commonly found as a last name. i have never heard of a woman named cruz and i know a lot of peopel here and in other places. I liek Cortez too. Landen doesnt sound like lance but it doesnt sound very original having two children with such similar names

not a fan of Cruz at all. It doesnt even sound like a first name to me. and if its something Voctoria Beckham named her kid...I definitely wouldnt go there...shes scarry! I like Landon. It sounds nothing like Lance at all. 2 totally different names starting with the same letter. my brother and I both had the same initials. of course I'm a girl and well, hes a guy..but it is the same kind of situation. its up to you thought...your child...but just think about hopw it will go over when he starts school and his name is Cruz.

i think that Cruz is an awsome name for a boy, but i see the problem. well if he is going to live in the U.S and visit his fathers country then that shouldn't be a problem. if not you could always find another name that you love that has to do with the culture.
in my opinion i say go with Cruz. its a cool name.
hope this helps & Congradulations!

Of course you don't want it to be too close to your other childs name because then it would cause more of a sibling rivalry between them. But I think it's an awesome name. I'm due in September and if it's a boy we are going to name it after him, but if it's a girl, her name will be Harmony Arielle. I let my husband name the baby because I really couldn't think of any but as soon as he saidthose names I fell in love. What you can do is both of you make a list and discuss and eliminate those you don't like and finally come to a decision

Gonna assume by your identity that your last name is Garcia. Cruz would match really perfectly. Cruz Garcia. Love it. At the very least, use it as a second name! Good luck!

Cruz sounds a lot better than Landon. You gotta think to yourself...when my son is 40 or 50 yrs old, LANDON?? for a name just sounds dorky.
Think ahead!
