Please don't advise obvious things such as going to a park, coloring or reading with him, buildling towers out of blocks, baking with him. I'd like some unique ideas. Thanks.

Build a pretend pirate ship and act like pirates. Or take him to the local animal shelter to volunteer together.

Go to the local museum and check out the mummies!!
Take him to a ball game.
If you are an active grandma take him roller skating.
Take him to the fire department (if you call ahead they will show him the fire engines and he gets to sit in them and get a firemans hat!)
Many libraries have special programs for children check them out-get him a library card.
Take him to the movies and see some special show he is interested in.
Go to build a bear workshop and make a bear.
To Mc Donalds where they have the climbing equipment for him to have fun on.
Some tae quon do studios have a special deal where the child can come for one class to see if he likes it.
Take him to a stage play
Let him make a fort out of blakets all over your living room-kids like to have lunch in there!!

Hope some of these help!! Have fun you two!!

Mine loved to go to the zoo. There's so much to see with all the different animals and so much to talk about. The day flies by and they have the best time. We also have a place in my town called the "Log Cabin Village" that's a historical place where the employees dress the part and do the "chores". It amazes them to see how people lived before their time while educating them at the same time.

I think what you do with your grandson depends on how much activity you really want to do.

Swimming lessons at the local YMCA or rec center.
Home Depot Children's workshops on Saturdays.
Monster Truck shows or Dirt Bike racing come around this time of year (My mother took my 5 year old son on Sat. - he loved it!)

most little boys love cars and trucks, see if there are any car races or truck shows you can take him to, maybe one that has those monster trucks (hopefully they wont scare him)My son is 3 and he loves that sort of stuff
you could take him to the movies, there are always good kids shows there and its inexpensive
take him to the pool
take him to the zoo
just go for a picnic
or try asking him what he would like to do

you are only limited by your imagination

Well, teaching him to do things, maybe play a board game that involves math or numbers. When I was 5 my grandma did that and I loved it.

i can't wait to teach my grandson to dig up worms and put them in his jeans pockets so he too can avenge his father! hehe.. no in all seriousness it's about memories.. not the activity.. just do .. anything anywhere .. my favorite memory of my grandmother was helping her rake the back yard while we ate blackberries off the bushes till we couldn't eat anymore..

My mother bought him one of those kids digital cameras and has him take pictures to create his own photo album of all the things he likes or just felt like taking a picture of. He loves it and takes pictures of everything down to the vaccum cleaner.
