According to my IQ tests, I am just above normal. My son who is nine and 32 years younger than I, has recently tested way above normal. It’s evident that he is smarter than myself. No matter what he touches he excels at, (i.e. music, writing, academics, even cooking). I guess my question is simple, any suggestions how to deal with this? I am by no means jealous of my son, but fear for when he needs assistance in homework (if he ever needs it that is), if he is further along than me, then I wont be able to help him. I guess I want to know: How do you raise a genius in a house of "normal" intelligence?

I am looking for camps/summer programs aimed at 15 to 18 year olds. The camps would preferably be located in the continental US (I am not looking for exchange programs or study abroad programs). Some of the criteria:

-Not too expensive (although that alone should not be too much of a limiting factor if the camp is fantastic)
-Sleep-away (somewhere between one week and a month)
-Co-ed
-Can be either achedemic or art-related or adventure-related
-Something other than the programs such as Outward Bound or a university pre-colege programs (part of the reason that I am using this method for information is to hear about some of the wonderful camps that are not as well advertised and heard about by word-of-mouth)

Thank you, all help is greatly appreciated.

Can you recomend any good books on how to teach my baby to fall asleep on his own.
*He sleeps in his crib and I am not interested in co-sleeping.
*I do not want to let him "cry it out", if that's possible
Please let me know of any tricks that have worked for you or your experinces.
Thank you

well my last period was Aug 1-3 i took h.p.t all neg went to the doc the have me a urine test it was neg but then she gave me prenatals so when i went back to the doc i asked why the last doc gave me pregnantals when she said i was not pregnant. his answer was when a woman is pregnant and she does not take those pills the baby takes all that it needs from the mother. and again i said but the last doc i saw said i was not pregnant he said well even when your breast feeding we like you to take those. I told him my son is 15 months old i have not breast feed since he was 3 months. and thats all he said!!! now my first doc visit i did get a cervical ultrasound but they farthest up they went was my c-section scare no higher. so i know they could not see all my uterus from there. oh and last night i started getting an odd pain in my belly and then today i was walking around and had lots of blood run down my legs ... The blood was red and had lots of big blood clots in it...

My son and his girlfriend (both 12 years old, first love) got into some trouble. There was a note sent to her by him and her dad found it. (I don't know what it said) They will not let her speak to him anymore, and when he wants to call her, he has to lie about who he is. I told him that he should never have to lie about who he is, but he said he doesn't care. I think that they should break up, due to the fact that they can't even talk on the phone without lying about it. We just don't condone behavior like this. We also believe that this girl has more "experience" than she lets on to have. We don't want our son to get hurt.

why do people give children names and spell them wrong deliberatly? surely this is just pretentious and leads to a life of 'actuly you just pronounce it like amy' or 'no, i spell it a-i-m-e-e'). whats the point? this also applies to foreign names spelt phonetically (we may not be irish, but we know how to pronounce sean!) and even, the more rare but equally ridiculous phonetic pronounciation of a foreign name (no i will not call your son see-an, it makes me look and sound like I'VE made the mistake)

someone once told me it was to make the name interesting, but in my opinion, it just makes everyone involved look foolish. its also just a really pretentious attitude that your name has to be spelt differently, causing minor inconveniance all round, for the sake of a conversation piece. as if having an 'interesting' name makes you an interesting person IT DOESN'T!

why do people do this? is it pride in ignorance?

I am 17 and am in high school and college (college 2 years early, because of my birth date). With 6 overall classes. I am in 4-H on the county council, a jr leader in church on Sundays and Wednesday nights (Wednesdays nights I teach sometimes, but I am always a helper), I do a lot of community service work, am in 2 clubs at school including the college transfer club (we go visit other colleges for information. and the extreme players club (they do tournaments like pool, chess, checkers, volley ball, and bicycling.). And I am trying to get into the honors club (PTK).and that is just what I do OUTSIDE my home. When I get home from school every day I have to cook dinner (for the whole family of 6), do my older brother's and my own laundry, clean the kitchen, and clean any messes my younger siblings have made. Then start homework. I usually start doing homework at 10pm and finish at 3am. And I have to be up by 7 every day. Some Saturdays I get to sleep, but others I don’t and just have to

i used to get morning sickness real bad, i couldnt even get outta bed. it was just extreme nausea though, no actual vomit. i had tried EVERYTHING under the sun and moon!!! finally i had to downgrade from prenatals to flintstone vitamins. i felt like A MILLION BUCKS for like a day and a half. now im back to feeling like crap, not as bad but now i actually throw up from time to time. so im going back to retrying everything now that i am off my prenatals. i feel so bad though because all my food cravings are gone, i never want to eat. ANYTHING. everything nauseates me. i do try and eat ginger snaps tho. I am wondering, how many ginger snaps should i eat to try and feel better? I really dont like those things and i force about 6 down my throat before giving up. anybody got a serving size?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant, very petite (5'1" and currently 118 lbs) and have had some difficulty breathing. This has become an inconvenience at work, especially when people come into the office and I'm gasping like fish out of water. Other than inhaling deeply and drinking water, which seems to help, does anyone have any other tips to avoid further discomfort at inconvenient times? Thanks for your help!

How do you feel about that California legislator trying to get a law against spanking our children? I believe its not the spanking that cause children to grow up and get into trouble, do drugs, break the law, etc. I don't spank my children, yet they are under the age of 2 and when they get older, we'll cross that bridge when we come ot it. I was spanked as a child and I dont go around causing mischief. I believe its the child itself that makes their own decisions. And how can they make it a law against it because no one will get caught unles they wre ratted out? They cant really make it a law when they are behind closed doors unless they were to install video cameras in every home with children. Im not saying I would spank my child, I didnt like it when I was young. I choose other forms of punishment, but if the times comes and nothing else works, I may have to. "Spare the rod, spoil the child"?

He was playing on Mommy & Daddies bed, 'head butting' the pillow, Well, He miscalculated his 'bang' and hit his head on our wooden headboard.

It started bleeding pretty badly at first, we put a cold washcloth on it, And it's slowed down considerably...It's not a BIG gash, But it's not a small one either...Before anyone says "Go see a doctor" I am waiting for my fiance to get home from work, To take us...Just wanted to know, What we might be able to do in the mean time to ease the pain. He's not crying, And he doesn't act like it hurts at all, But when he's being active(which is constantly for a 2 year old) it starts bleeding again? Do you think it'll need stitches? And does this really warrant a trip to the ER?

I was wondering how the whole charting thing works. My husband and I have been talking about having another baby. Our daughter is almost 8 months old and we have just recently started discussing this topic. We will more than likely be trying to conceive in 6 months or so. Our daughter was a surprise baby. So we want to plan a baby. But I don't understand the whole charting. I have tried to figure it out before but I just don't get it.I know it works and my sister in law has gotten pregnant by doing this. So if any of you have good suggestions on it I would really appreciate it. Sorry this is so long. Best answer gets 10 points! Thanks
