My daughter is about to be one and I want to wean her off the breastmilk as soon as possible but so it will be less traumatic for her.

Try eliminating one feeding a day. Use a cup with whole milk (warmed up) in it. Try using the NUBY sippy cup as it has a softer spout on it. Good luck.

ETA: When you wean your baby, start her on whole milk. Do not give your baby formula. She is one. She doesn't need formula or breast milk anymore!

Slowly and gently is best for both of you. It will make the transition less traumatic for her and gentler on your body.

Eliminate one feeding every 5 days or so. If you are feeling engorged, you may need to wait a little longer before dropping the next feeding.

Try distraction and substitution with her. Try "heading her off at the pass" and offering her another snack, drink or activity before she asks to nurse.

This is a good time to introduce your daughter to a new, fun activity that she really enjoys. Maybe a big bottle of bubbles & a bubble wand, some new manipulative toys like those huge baby 'lego' type things--they're soft, though.
Also go to www.Lalecheleague.com for lots of info on how to wean with less hurt feelings and trauma for you both.
Good luck!

I had a house start without drugs & i ought to have given start 10 cases once more desirable quite than manage that soreness. My advice is to wean as slowly as attainable. also, taking sage pills helped fantastically to dry my milk up as my grant became very heavy from nursing for practically 2 years.

My daughter was 14 months when I weaned her. She more or less was accepting of it. If your not down to just night feedings at this age you should be. Just gradually make it less and less time. Eventually try to get her to sleep before you would normally breastfeed. Good luck to you.. :)
