During the 1600s through the 1800s, for two weeks after childbirth, a woman was "bedridden." What was that time period called?

I am pregnant with my first child and don't like thinking of the birth because I think that I will be so embarrased. Legs spread wide open, everybody staring at you down there, and my husband watching all that going on. I know that doctors and nurses see this hundreds of times a year, but still, I can't help it. Am I the only one worried about that?

I'm 15 1/2 weeks along. I've been feeling the baby fluttering around for a few weeks, but late last night, I swear I felt a kick under my bellybutton with my hand! Is this possible yet or am I crazy? Thanx:)

I am on week 18 of my pregnancy...almost halfway through it. I have had no morning sickness, no movement, and I'm not showing. I have only gained like 6 pounds in 4 months and I'm still wearing my jeans comfortably. I'm getting concerned. I just dont know what it up with all of it. The last time I saw a doctor I was 11wks 2days and my ultrasound presumed normal, but now I'm worried. Should I be?

Hello, I have been trying to get pregnant now for months. I know exactly when I ovulate and my periods are always regular. I am now 4 days late for my period. I took a pregnancy test a few days ago and it had a really light/pale positive line. I waited a few more days and I took one today and it was negative. My breasts are really sore and every once in a while I will get a period like cramp. Could I be pregnant?

My son is 2 years old, a only child and has been in a preschool for 6 months. The problem is he keeps biting the children at the preschool when he can't get his way. I've tried talking to him telling him "thats not nice to bite" I even to the extreme of biting him once to show him how it feels. This has been going on for 1 month now and nothing i'm doing is working. Does anyone know a good method to stop this madness?

My son is 15 months old and his hair has grown into a big bushy afro. I'm not cutting his hair anytime soon, but I want to braid it. He's very active and I don't know how to make him sit still while I attempt to braid his bush. Any hints?

We're going to a small birthday gathering for a lady from church whose baby is turning 1. She also has a daughter who will be 4 in December. Would it be appropriate to get a small gift for the older sibling. And by small I mean like a cheapy $1 princess jewelry set from the dollar store or something. My husband says "no, just get a gift for the 1 year old. Kids need to learn they can't always get gifts at a birthday party." Besides, my almost 3 year old is friends with the almost 4 year old so I thought it would be kind of cool for my daughter to give something to her. Appropriate or not?

I have a nanny/housekeeper who works in my home approximately 20 hours a week. She's been doing things that irritate me, but today she did something that was just plain odd.

She and my five-year-old were playing and my daughter accidentally called the nanny by the dog's name (names are very similar phonetically). The nanny started pretending she was a dog and actually licked my daughter's face two or three times.

I know how ridiculous this sounds. I assure you I'm not making this up or trying to be a smartass. That is exactly how it happened.

My husband found out and he wants to fire the nanny. He said that behavior is unacceptable and he doesn't want someone like that in our home.

I think it is definitely odd behavior and that we should address it with the nanny, but I think flat out firing her without any notice/warning is a bit harsh.

What would you do? Fire the nanny or discuss your concerns with her?

While undoing my son's seat belt, I ,noticed that he had a bite
mark on his wrist . My first question, to him was, how did this happen? He just said "Mama baby Owen bite you". I took pictures and,I drove back to the day care and, told the person in charge.

She said that she had not seen the bite mark ,and, that she heard him cry this morning, and that she did not know why he was crying. And she, did remember that he and another kid ,was trying to pull a toy, or something, and she does not remember, who the other kid was.
And that she would write down a report , and make me sign, and
She said that, she is not sure as to whether that child bit my son or not, and would not consider the name of which my son mentioned.
When I, asked her, if she remembers, who sat next to him, she said, that she does not remember, and does not have a 100% mind.
What do I, need to do.I am really upset, and there, has been other issues too, and it is really frustrating.

My 5 month old has been drinking Enfamil w/ iron since birth, I get his formula through the WIC program and when I went to get new vouchers yesterday they had changed to Nestle Good Start. Does anyone know the differences between these two formulas? I understand the state program going with a less expensive formula, I just thought that a baby was supposed to stay on the same formula from birth to milk unless there were digestive problems. Any Moms have any problems when changing formula brands? Do I mix them for awhile or just stop one and begin the other?
