I am pregnant with my first child and don't like thinking of the birth because I think that I will be so embarrased. Legs spread wide open, everybody staring at you down there, and my husband watching all that going on. I know that doctors and nurses see this hundreds of times a year, but still, I can't help it. Am I the only one worried about that?

Honey once you start feeling some pain you wouldn't care if the entire population of CHINA was starring down there you would just want it to be over.

Trust me I am with you! I was thinking that I was going to be very embarassed. But, what happens is that you end up not caring and I am seriouse. You just want to get this over and done with. I will go in labor with my 3rd baby within the next couple of weeks and I still think the way you do. But, when you see the baby you forget everything. Try not to be embaressed and do everything that the doctors tell you. Oh, one thing that I didn't know- you will probably poop on the table. My husband told me this after the fact that I did. You aren't the only one!!!!

Honestly, the only thing anyone ever told me about giving birth that was true was this : "By the time that baby is ready to come out, you aren't going to care who sees your what-not!" My grandma told me that. And she was right! After all the 10+ hours of painful labor I had to work through, by the time my daughter was ready to be delivered, I really didn't care! I wanted to see her and I wanted the pain to be over with so I would have done anything!!!
I hope you progress to having the same feelings by the end of your labor, I would hate for someone to have to be embarrassed about giving birth when there are so many other things to love about it, such as finally getting to meet your child! And speaking of embarrassing - My mom was the one holding one of my legs up along with a nurse when I had to push lol. I kept yelling at her to make sure she was looking at the wall!!! I think I would have rather had my husband in that position than my mother! Anywho, good luck!

You have no need to worry, You are covered by a blanket most of the time and then when it's time to push, you are in so much pain and/or so desperate to just get the kid out, that you competely lose all pride and shame.
Usually the nurses and doctors are comforting and they will never make you feel awkward.

Your husband can be where your face is the whole time, just request that he stay and look at you, even when the baby is coming out.
Try to have no other family members in the room.
I think that that is really strange, but some people don't seem to mind. weird.

I am the mother of a 5 week old. I thought it would be incredibly embarassing, too. I never got to have a natural birth due to being in labor for 32 hours and then having a c-section. However, I can tell you that as embarassed as I was thinking it would be...I never even gave it a second thought. Even as the doctor was shoving his fist up there to check for dialation. Believe me, you won't care! Good luck to you!

Yes doll it's only you, take it as it is, see that is one of the most beautiful acts in the world, I know that you're like in a mega moody roller coaster but you gotta understand that there's nothing lusty about it, the doc knows it, as well as nurses and your Hubie, It's not like you're all going to jump into a bed together and let God sort it out. Or do you prefer Cesare? Natural birth is the best for you and your baby, don't worry. Good Luck Mom! He He...seriously may God be with you and your little angel in that blessful day. Best wishes and all my love.

Well I am 9 weeks pregnant and just got into reading about pregnancy and birth.. All I can say is that I learned some things that your mother never told you that could potentially be embarassing. Overall, I think if you are happy about being pregnant all the silly/nasty stuff is just what you go through to bring your little brat/baby into the world!!!

I was scared about it, i am a very shy and private person. But.... by the time It was time to push I didn't care at all!! I was butt naked and I had my mom holding one leg and a nurse holding the other, and my sister watching! I didn't want it filmed or anything cus I thought I would be embarassed, but I wish I would have. I will have my next one filmed.... Oh, and after you have the baby the nurse will probably help you try to feed it, so she will be touching your breast, just to let you know......

Hell No!! I felt exactly the way you do when I had my first baby!! Just tell your midwife that you would like a sheet or a cover of some sort over your legs etc, for as long as possible and explain to your husband that "down there" is a no go zone!! he most likely will not even be interested when your in labour!!

Most midwives try and maintain your privacy as much as they can.

Good Luck

When I got preggers I hated the idea of anybody looking down there too. I even hated my once-a-year exams. By the time I was ready to have the baby, I had been poked and prodded and inspected so many times down there by doctors and nurses that I was pretty used to it. When I did finally go into labor, I was so ready to have it over with, that I really didn't care who saw what down there.

yes i think that you might be the only one. You are in that much pain that your body doesnt even know what embarrassed is anymore. Trust me, it hurts like hell and you dont have time to worry about that let alone time to take a breather in between contractions or pushing. Its a natural thing, why should you be embarrassed. Midwifes and doctors deliver thousands of baby's a year, and a few a day at least so this is normal to them anyway. Just as doing a Poo while pushing is normal for them to see. Dont be scared.
