of kids called emos? What does that mean? Where did that word come from?

Emo refers to the music they listen to (short for emotional). It used to be music with the purpose of making a statement about something, but now it's about emotional angst.

Anyways, in my experience, emos are just whiny ppl who can also be overly sensitive. Kinda like drama queens, I guess. Ever heard of the phrase "heart on your sleeve"? Emos have a sick need for attention. So they whine and complain about the smallest of problems (even if it's their fault or they made it up) just to get sympathy. I used to be one of those ppl that give away sympathy as often as I breathed, but then I got sick of it. Actually, for one brief moment, I was an emo, too, when I wrote an essay on my life's biggest challenge. I tried to get my teacher to pity me, and she got pissed off. I changed the entire essay. Emos are not appreciated. I mean, if your father died or you got raped or something, then I will give you a hug and try to comfort you. But if you have your period and you're whining about how much your cramps hurt or something, whatever. Take some Tylenol or Midol and leave me alone, is wat I would say. Periods are not a big deal unless you whine about it or you have some hemorrage issue that will kill you or something. Emos try their best to get people to pity them, b/c they like being told that they're special and that they are not ugly or sumthing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. When it doesnt work, they take it up a notch, and even start to lie. Keep ur eyes peeled...there will be a lot of emos in Yahoo! Answers, especially in this Adolescent section...

Emo comes from the word Emotional and many "Emo" kids are confused in how they should feel and what they should do,... "many of them tend to make-up problems for others to feel sympathy for them and that is giving them exactly what they want. "

Emo is short for emotional - like for teens who listen to this really emotional music which makes them really emotional - you know, like no one understands them but their other emotional friends. This is the next step down from Goth. Read it for what it is: strange.
