War Costs Soar by a Third; Total Could Top $1.4 Trillion
It’s not just the troops that are surging. War costs are up for American operations in Iraq and Afghanistan more than a third higher than last year. In the first half of this fiscal year, the Defense Depart.'s "average monthly obligations for contracts and pay is running about $12 billion per month, well above the $8.7 billion in FY2006," says a new report, from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service.
Additional war costs for the next 10 years could total about $472 billion if troop levels fall to 30,000 by 2010, or $919 billion if troop levels fall to 70,000 by about 2013. If these estimates are added to already appropriated amounts, total funding about $980 billion to $1.4 trillion by 2017. Meanwhile, Inside Defense reports that "top Pentagon budget and program officials have directed the military services to prepare spending proposals to finance Iraq and Afghanistan operations. Is it because we fight and die for their liberty, their right to speak out against their government, the right to say any wise (or as is more often the case) any foolish thing they want?

There is this kid that makes my Latte's everyday. Nice enough guy. He is trying to work his way through the local community college to get his SEMIOTICS degree. He is always peddeling these insane cospiracies on me; Diebold stole the election, Bush caused 9/11, Bush outed the CIA desk jockey, Sasquatch killed JFK ect.. I usually just giggle and go on my merry way. Today he tells me "I am not paying anymore federal taxes because I am against america's war in Iraq".

I tell him "Lighten up Dude, You work at Starbucks! You pay no federal income taxes! Just relax LIB ~ No one in this country or this administration is going to force you to serve in Iran, Iraq and Afganistan against your will. Mostly young conservative men and women are doing that for you. So here is a "suggestion" shut thefuckup and let the troops do their job so they can come home. Pour a glass of white wine, light up some weed and RELAX. No one is going to DRAFT you from your mommy's basement".

Fred Thompson gained an image as a tough-minded investigative counsel for the Senate Watergate committee. Yet President Nixon and his top aides viewed the fellow Republican as a willing, if not too bright, ally, according to White House tapes.

DOES THIS MEAN FRED THOMPSON IS SURE TO WIN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY?

and fight them there? If we do, won't they just go back to Iraq or Syria, or Lebanon or a host of other countries. Are we going to bankrupt ourselves running around the globe fighting an enemy we can't identify until after they attack? Wouldn't it make much more sense to secure our own country to the best of our ability?

EVERY able bodied American should pay their FAIR SHARE and a FLAT TAX is FAIR.

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8Q7VUIG0&show_article=1&catnum=3
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani ran into a buzz saw of opposition Saturday when he explained his opposition to a flat federal income tax.
Several dozen people jeered when Giuliani, in response to a question, said he would not be in favor of a flat tax.

"I have to study it some more," the former New York City mayor said. "I don't think a flat tax is realistic change for America. Our economy is dependent upon the way our tax system operates."

HE DID SAY HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT THOUGH ...We'll see...
