EVERY able bodied American should pay their FAIR SHARE and a FLAT TAX is FAIR.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani ran into a buzz saw of opposition Saturday when he explained his opposition to a flat federal income tax.
Several dozen people jeered when Giuliani, in response to a question, said he would not be in favor of a flat tax.

"I have to study it some more," the former New York City mayor said. "I don't think a flat tax is realistic change for America. Our economy is dependent upon the way our tax system operates."

HE DID SAY HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT THOUGH ...We'll see...

much as I would like to see it changed, I think tax policy in our country is like abortion policy. people like to express where they stand, but true change will probably never come.

I'll just be happy to get a republican in the white house.

While the flat tax has done a lot to bring Russia out of it's crippling post-Soviet economic collapse, selling it in America is going to be really hard. People seem to think they're entitled to redistribute the wealth of those that already pay the vast majority of taxes. The top 5% in this country pays something like 75% of the taxes, but they're attacked and vilified by the left for not 'doing their part'. Apparently people think punishing people for being successful is a good economic move.

Bottom line, you will never convince the left side of the spectrum that everyone should pay the same percentage in taxes. Forgetting of course that 10% of 25 million is still a hell of a lot more than 10% of 20 thousand.

Wouldn't flat taxes make the lower class people more dependent on social programs? Cuz you know they're certinaly not going to LOWER taxes for everyone else.
I'm more concerned about terrorism and immigration than taxes. I'm seriously considering Fred Thompson. I know I'm not going to find a perfect candidate, but I think he probably stands the best chance of winning - if we as conservatives unite, we can beat the libs - cuz you know each of their candidates is going to find a special interest group to lobby for, so their votes will be pretty much divided.
United we stand, divided we fall....

We need a Sales Tax. Stop taking from the consumer before they have time to spend, helping our economy. Tax the goods people buy as a percentage of the cost (not the traditional add-on we are most familiar with) this is the best solution

A flat tax with no deductions would devastate the middle class and drive middle class home values down, by eliminating our only real deduction, the Home Mortgage.
The Rich would redirect investments as to avoid it, because risk on investment would not match reward. Therefor, less money in play for the Economy.
The poor would not be affected much, and there would probably be a minimum income level.
So the weight and burdon of a Flat Tax would fall on the Middle Class.

P.S. I am a conservative also.....

I'd rather see a consumption tax in place, than the flat tax.

The fact that he seems opposed to change on this, is a valid point.

He's got more iffy issues too.

Not for me. Security is my #1 issue & he is very good there. I'm not in favor of immediate wholesale changes in our tax system. We may not like the results.

My deal breaker is the fact that he will not support real border enforcement. All I hear is we cannot do this and that out of him. He has been divorced twice, which is an issue. He is pro abortion, which I can overlook, but most conservatives cannot.
