I am an old (if you consider 31 to be old) political science graduate. I am generally a 3rd party voter. Greens, Libertarian, Reform, etc. I have noticed that on Yahoo Answers that many folks are unable to grasp political philosophy. They are unable to discuss political issues in an articualte manner. They view politics as a sporting event with teams. It is extremely difficult to ask a question about a particular issue without folks making assumptions. Then it goes back to the Clinton vs. Bush game. Over and over. If you criticize a conservative point of view, folks assume you are a Democrat and a die hard Clinton supporter. Then the usual reply is, "Well, Clinton got sucked off by..." If you criticize a liberal viewpoint, folks assume you are a Republican and die hard Bush supporter. The usual reply is, "Well, the Bush administration lied about WMD's..." Why can't folks remove themselves from these types of trivial partisan arguments and discuss the issue itself?

I do know that American citizens are not exempt from this new law, and that only the President's opinion is all that matters, without ANY evidence needed. Is this the end of the American system of jurisprudence? With the suspension of the right of habeas corpus, are ANY of us safe from arrest and torture?

I've been watching ABC news all week, and Diane Sawyer is over in North Korea interviewing the public, and seeing what their life there is like. All the people she interviewed seemed normal, happy and proud of there country. Is it that they are so oppressed, they don’t know there oppressed, or is it that they are so fearful of there government their too afraid to speak out about how they really feel?

this is just my beliefs but it seems the actual people in control is businesses from everywhere. it looks like america is going bankrupt which is what the terrorist want.people can't afford insurance, drugs are impossible to get because employers can no longer pay high costs for their employees, people all over are losing their jobs, while billions are being sent all over plus to keep the war going.our own homeland security doesn't pass the tests and our paychecks do not cover cost of living. the internet is a smart way to get we the people to take control, such as not buying gas from citgo because the owner wants us to go bankrupt. hurray for seven eleven for getting rid of their citgo stations. i don't want to be rich, i just want to be able to pay my bills on time and maybe drive a car thats good on gas and actually has a whole floor. iam i wrong in my thinking

I think the whole question of whether or not we should have gone there is irrelevant because we are there now and whats done is done. I'm curious as to what peoples objective opinions of the pros/cons of immediate troop withdrawl from Iraq. Please no disgruntled rightwinger and leftwinger answers (you know who you are). Just honest and objective opinions minus the angry responses and finger pointing.

We are allowed to vote for Idol on TV, do you think we could replace local, state and federal politicians by giving everyone a text phone/PDA which could enable us to vote on every issue affecting us, rather than electing representatives who may or may not vote the way we want?

Does any party have a policy of improving democracy or are we to believe that it is perfect?

Can You think of a good name for this system?

Non-technological safeguards needed?

How to bring up issues- beaureucratic advice and Citizen initated referenda? The phone could act as a community noticeboard for ideas/schemes.
