How are we going to mentally rehabilitate our good soldier when he returns? These are not the jungles of Vietnam.

What will he tell his child when asked, ' What did you do there, Dad? What did you really do?'

I remember a certain comment made by their commander in chief years ago declaring victory. So why are the troops still there when they won the war years ago? The victory parade is taking an awful long time.

I live in Italy. How long does it take to a letter to reach him from Italy? He told me that if I send a letter to him, I'm actually sending it to USA, because my letter must be checked in the States, for safety questions, before coming back to Germany..

I hear 6 months to a year is standard. And that depending on the job, one can stay out longer... is there a limit? Would being out there 14 months now and not expected back for another 11 months be normal for volunteer?

are gay people allowed in the military at the moment, or are they not accepted. Does anyone have some good sites or information regarding gays in the military. Anything would be appreciated.

I work at one. I just want to assure you that the guards there look more heavily armed than SWAT. There are one of them for every two workers. I can't tell you much more, but aside from an airliner (and they have that covered too) NOBODY could suicide bomb an American Nuke plant. It is part of their Federal License since 911 to be completely prepared.

the question was were WWii veterans bought back to safe areas after two weeks in battle,the answer is yes,which brings me to the police action in Vietnam,we were out fighting for about 9 months in one year,out for10-14 days,back for a week if you were lucky,then out again,i am not degrading WWii veterans,they are all heroe's,they saved the world,but think about the 58,000 plus Aust andUSA veterans who fought and died,it was not as easy for us as everyone seems to think.i leave you to ponder this matter

I need to write an obituary for my father-in-law. On his honorable discharge from the Navy, under "remarks," it says the following: Point System;
Victory Medal;
American Campaign;
Asiatic Pacific 3 Stars and 1 Silver Star;
Philippine Liberation 2 Stars;
So far I've written it this way: "...and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, where he served as Gunner’s Mate, Second Class. He was awarded a Victory Medal, three Stars and one Silver Star (Asiatic Pacific) and two Stars (Philippine Liberation) before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946."
(The semicolons above indicate line breaks on the discharge document.) Is my wording proper? Or is there another way of stating it? Many thanks in advance.

Isn't this mission accomplished?

Why can't Bush declare victory and withdraw?

Unless he really was after the oil all along, as many people said, and he'll have to leave that behind.
It looks suspiciously like that is indeed the case.
There is no other excuse for staying that I can see.

It seems everyone just assumes that the violence will increase sharply if the USA leaves Iraq.
I don't see it that way.
Since both sides in the civil war, and most Iraqis, see American presence as the main catalyst of violence in their country I think a USA withdrawal will obviously decrease the violence instantly.
Why wouldn't it?
