yes they are, however there is a push to remove bayonets from future military weapons here in the US, the M-16 will probably be the last weapon with bayonet lugs.
However Bayonets still hold a pretty prominent role in most other military forces around the world.

I read the last bayonet attack was done by the British in this conflict in Iraq. The order was given to fix bayonets, they attacked armed Iraqis and won with Iraqi body parts everywhere. I don't know why they would do that, like I didn't understand and American sergeant would go straight to hand to hand combat to kill an Iraqi before another Iraqi threw a grenade at the sergeant killing the sergeant. I don't know if either story is true either.

I went to basic in 2000, and we did bayonet training there. There's an attachment on the M-16 for them. We did a bayonet course and the little kill, kill, kill with the cold blue steel jingle. I'm pretty sure they're not used in current warfare, but soldiers are still trained how to use them. Hope this gets you your steak dinner!

Yeah of course. I think the M9 is the standard for the M16. The 'pig sickle' style isn't though. UN didn't like it. Too good at stabbing.
To the second person, of course they are still used. It's just the **** has really hit the fan if that happens. Plus they are great for killing silently. But it isn't they clean slice you see in the movies. They use the serrated edge with a sawing motion.
