False casualty notification alert:

A Topeka military family has reported they were notified at their home of an injury to their solider currently deployed. This information was incorrect, the persons that gave the false information were wearing uniforms but showed no identification, and did not follow the notification protocol.

This hoax has traveled throughout the United States . The family is notified of either injury or fatality. The intent is to either cause the family to leave the house and rob the home, or to gather personal information such as social security numbers for identity thief purposes.

Please remember, the military personnel at your home will not need the information such as social security numbers. You will always be notified by someone who will identify themselves and who will not be offended if you verify who they are. Casualty notifications will always be handled in a professional and caring manner.

CID recommends that family members who receive calls concerning the medical status of loved ones deployed to a combat zone note the name and telephone number of the caller, if possible, and contact the local Casualty Office or the American Red Cross to confirm. If the call is determined to be a hoax, immediately report the crime to the local CID office. If a family member receives false notification in person, please document the description and names of the person(s), and information about the vehicle they are driving. We take these hoaxes very seriously and will be investigating this insult to our families.

He is coming home from Iraq and I am going to try to get a security pass to meet him at the gate. I have bought a semi-fancy dress and some heels to go with it. I asked a question about the dress earlier in Fashion and mentioned what the occasion was for and some people said it was too fancy!!! Am I wrong in thinking that this is a VERY special occasion and I want to get dressed up for my husband???

This is a pretty petty question, but maybe some other wives could give their opinion or some soldiers who have come home to their wives could give an opinion. Thanks! And please be nice. :)

I understand Iwo Jima, maybe we needed the airstrip but Tarawa? Who needed it? Couldn't we just have ignored it until after Japan surrendered? What logical reason for sending all those G.I.s to their death?

President Bush insists that he is God's messenger here to bring peace to the Middle East. Just about every other country disagrees with him and believes he is making a horrible mistake. Was 911 really a conspiracy? Is President Bush a puppet for a larger picture?

I am asking because of a storyline on a show that I was watching. The character is a marine who was wounded in combat, lost a leg and was discharged. He has an artificial leg now, and on the show he re-enlisted under a fake name.

I don't think he would even be able to enlist, and definitely would not be sent into a war zone. Am I wrong?

To hire mercenary groups to go and make our mark on the middle east? I mean, a contract for the French Foreign Legion would be a fraction of the cost of what we are paying US Soldiers. Sure, the death toll would be 10000x's greater, but they would save so much money, right?

My husband is deployed to Afghanistan. He left with the first unit to go over for the deployment. Last month he was going to be home in three days after a year deployment, when the Army decided to extend His brigade 4 months. Then on top of that today I found out they want to send him home with the last group instead of the group he deployed with which means an extra month or two on top of the extention. I want to let people know how crapy the government is treating our soldiers. The other brigade where I am stationed only gets to stay home 10 months before deploying to Iraq again. What can I do to let people know this isn't ok? That soldiers need more time home with their familys? I know that he volunteered to do this, and I wouldn't be so upset if they didn't keep adding on time month after month. I can't keep thinking he will be home soon just to find out he won't be.

I am going to army basic training in June. I tell people that I am going to army and they say I shouldn't. I tell them that (im a senior graduating in may) I can earn bachelor's degree while serving and college courses are much shorter and 100 % free in military.
But then they say army benefits are not as good as it seems.

I know army is not 100% amazing and it's not for everyone either.
But why are these people telling me that I am wasting my time?

I want to ask those who are/have been in the army.
What are some downside of army that might concern other people?
