I am asking because of a storyline on a show that I was watching. The character is a marine who was wounded in combat, lost a leg and was discharged. He has an artificial leg now, and on the show he re-enlisted under a fake name.
I don't think he would even be able to enlist, and definitely would not be sent into a war zone. Am I wrong?

niceguy17 - I personally have no interest in joining the military, I was just wondering because of the storyline on the show.

While you would not be able to enlist with an artificial limb.
There are Soldiers and Marines who have served in combat with artificial limbs.
There have been navy personel with artificial limbs.
Marine Sgt. Christopher Chandler lost his left leg below the knee in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2001. He finished rehabilitation, reenlisted, went thru jump school in 2003, and went to Iraq with the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in 2004.
Marine Col. Timothy Howard lost his right arm during the invasion of Grenada in 1983, he continued to serve and is now the commanding officer for the Weapons and Field Training Battalion at Parris Island.
Master Chief Boatswain's Mate (Diver) Carl Brashear lost his left leg in an accident and continued to be a Navy Diver.
There is a long history of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who have lost limbs, who continued to serve and be deployed into combat zones.

They Definetly would not allow it you couldnt pass the training cause you have to climb stuff you cant climb if ur missing a arm or leg fast enough to pass the course. Hell They wont even let me in and I am on medicine for adhd. I would suggest not joining the army those recruiters lie alot! To get people to join the army. Soon as you enlist u would have a week after training then u would be in iraq. And that movie you saw is a load of bs cause that woul never be allowed.

If in your story line, the individual was already trained and in physical shape for duty, They can fight for a waiver. (No guarantee that an enlisted man will get it but an officer probably would.)
If on the other hand, that the person had lost a limb prior to military service, They would not even make to MEPS.

Are you seriously asking this question? Of course the military will not let you enlist-you have to pass their physical requirements.

There is an Army Captain that lost his leg. He fulfilled all the requirements, passed all the rigorous testing and is back in Iraq. Answer your question?

My guess is that if you enlist right now, and you have a pulse, Uncle Sam will find a combat related role for you.

Definitely not. Especially if it was prior to service. Movies like that make me laugh. They have to go to MEPS where everyone is stripped down to their undies. Hehehehe,..

Probably not, they prefer that you lose the limb while in the service.
