In many movies that have U.S. fighter pilots in them, whenever the pilot launches a missile they say "Box 3" or "Box 4" or whatever. What is the significance of the word box? My guess is that it's some kind of designation for the missile that is being launched, but I'm sure there's a better answer.

I am in need of numbers and dates. I am mostly referring to the continuous firebombings that occurred in 1945 before the dropping of the nukes. I know that the US was killing thousands a week but that wasn't enough and they were doing everything they could to kill faster. I need numbers, approximate dates and most importantly sources because this will need to be verified. How many died in particular raids is useless. I need weekly figures.

population, how does the US military in Iraq win hearts & minds of the Iraqi civilians?

Do they live with the Iraqi people in the Sunni Triangle? Do they live with the Iraqi civilians in the Shiite/Sunni neighborhoods in Baghdad? Do they live in the Iraqi villages in the Anabar province? And if they do how long do they live with them? A month, 6 months, a year, etc....?

I now am within sight of my ETS in July (for active duty) and am now being told of deployment this September. Personally I dont mind deploying again however, i am getting married in July. If i deploy i will return next september (if i do) i will return only to see my wife in prep to deploy. What do I do. I know that i will just lose it if that happens. Maybe i am writing this for just someone to talk too. Any advise is great mental heath doesnt seem to care all to much. So please dont ask me to ssee them. If anyone has anything please let me know.

First, they are not "insurgents". Stop listening to rhetoric and instead read your dictionary: an insurgent is "an opponent to a constitutional government". The US is NOT the constitutional government of Iraq; they are an occupying army, hence those fighting the US are a _resistance_.

Second, if you wonder why they are losing, read on:

1) The US military is poorly equipped for urban warfare (you can thank Chicken George and Dumb Donald Rumsfelch for that).

2) You can't win a fight on the other guy's territory, nobody ever has except by genocide (ie. the British in Tasmania)

3) The US desperately tries to avoid even a single death, meanwhile the opposition are _willing_ to die in a 20:1 ratio. Even with that numeric advantage, the US doesn't have the heart, spine or stomach to fight a war of attrition. The resistance does.

In any fight, winning requires being able or willing to do what the other guy won't. The US clearly doesn't have the balls to do what it needs to do to win. And anyone who whines about the resistance's tactics (as some "answerers" have) is an idiot. These whiners seem to expect the resistance to walk in a line like the British redcoats, walking along and making it easy to shoot them.

As Donald Rumsfelch said, "You go to war with the army you have, not the army you'd like to have". The resistance have AK-47s, IEDs, suicide bombs and Molotov cocktails; guerilla war is the only way the resistance can win, so someone has to be stupid and infantile not to expect it.

Let's not also forget: the tactics of guerilla warfare (hit and run, shrapnel bombs, dressing in civilian clothes) were tactics the _US_ used to fight the British. And now these crybabies soil their diapers when an resistance uses the same tactics against them? If they don't like it, shouldn't do it, or better yet, go home and stop whining about it.

I've met enlisted people who have their Masters in various disciplines. I've met officers who have a BA in History, Literature, Philosophy, and Political Science...with admittedly poor grades. The military encourages officers to behave in a superior manner to enlisted. I was in the military as an enlisted man. It was the most demeaning experience of my life. I would never return to it. I remember going to sick call for strep throat, in serious pain, and having to wait for the doctors to put a band-aid on a reserve Air Guard Lieutenant's hand..who came in after I did. All I wanted was something for the pain. I was given nothing. The military was a totally humiliating experience and I discourage any young person from enlisting in the military. Does the military treat enlisted like scum and treat officers like royalty? The Army is the worst, I understand, and the Air Force is best as far as treatment of enlisted personnel. So, I can understand if opinions are a little skewed.

Not so good it seems. America is racked with drugs and crimes. Perhaps the US military needs to be withdrawn from the middle east and used in the US where most of the people are dying from crime, drugs and natural causes and NOT from terrorism. Ooops..I forgot. Americans don't generally care about this because it happens mainly to minorities. Next question.

Americans couldn't care less than it already does about it's soldiers. The only group that cares less is America's own government who not only fails to supply them well, but fails to care for them as veterans. Ask yourself why America took 60 years to build a WW2 memorial for it's vets AFTER most of them were dead.

Unless we used nuclear weapons we wouldn't be able to win a war. Our military is small. What army we have is spread out very thin. Our youth are either fat video thumbs or apathetic drug users, so a draft would be futile.

We can only keep invading and killing and threatening for so long....

Compare them with today fighter pilots: Navy, Air Force, Marines, Isrealis, Russians, etc.

Who are the best of the best? The World War II Aces or today fighter pilots in their F-15's, F-18 Super Hornets, F-22 Raptors, F-117, etc.

You can add to the comparison the Vietnam War Aces or even the WW I pilots, what the heck.........I want to know who is the best of the best of the best!

Discuss.
