Air Force

2007-03-04 06:21:57 · answer #1 · answered by Spiral Out 6 · 1 1

Actually it depends. If I want a strategic bombing mission to take out a large well defended target I would take the Air force pilot. If I needed to take out multiple tactical targets I would use Navy pilots. Personally I would not want to run up against either one, nor would I want to have to face a marine pilot or army pilot fixed wing or rotary. My belief is that the Navy and Marine pilots are just slightly better because of their having to do their work from an aircraft carrier. It is not easy.

Air Force. While it is true Navy has to land on carriers, they do it INTO a wind (never with a cross wind) and if they land even close to the target (not hard with computers now) a cable stops the plane. The USAF C-130 has landed on a carrier, and USAF pilots beat Navy pilots. Both Navy and AF have their own training programs (Top Gun and Red Flag Respectively)

There's no clear answer to that. I think it's in the indivual pilot themselves. I was in Iraq and called in airstrikes on targets from the Air Force. I've also seen the Navy come in and drop bombs too. In that kind of situation I don't care if it's the Air Force or the Navy, so long as the ordnance is on target and the bad guys become blood splats everywhere.

Do you really have to ask? The AIR Force. We have landed and launched C-130s off of Navy carriers and in excersises Air Force pilots slaughtered Navy pilots in dog fights.

In the air, I would say they about equal out. Depends on what you mean by BETTER PILOT. Any pilot can land on an air strip, how many can land on a deck that is a just under 1,100 feet long (332.85 meters) and 275 feet wide(76.8 meters) while it is rolling and rocking and tossing AT NIGHT, IN THE RAIN? I know 5
FA-18 (ex-F-14) Hornet pilots that can (there are hundreds more, of course). I also know 2 ex-F-4 Phatom pilots that could.

I believe both Air Force and Navy are good and equal. And, by the way, landing on a carrier does not make for a better pilot--just good at landing on carrier.

I'd have to say the Navy/Marine corps. for fighters and the Air Force for the stealth and bomber attacks. Either that or the Air Force needs new PR workers on their fighter capabilities, you never hear of the exploits of the air force fighter pilot these days, not since Viet Nam anyway.

Well, who has to land on a carrier deck, even at night? Seems to me, that alone would make the Navy pilots better

The Navy...

Navy pilots have to land a million dollar aircraft on less than two football fields worth of aircraft carrier, at more than 130 mph, snag a wire with a tiny tailhook, while keeping their engines close to full power in case they miss. They have to do it in all sorts of weather, and do it while the carrier is moving foward, and pitching up and down in rough seas. They have to do it at night using night vision goggles. They train to be able to do it with instruments only.

Well, at least the carrier pilots do. I don't care what you say, you have to be pretty damn slick to do that.

Air force is the sweet life.
