He is coming home from Iraq and I am going to try to get a security pass to meet him at the gate. I have bought a semi-fancy dress and some heels to go with it. I asked a question about the dress earlier in Fashion and mentioned what the occasion was for and some people said it was too fancy!!! Am I wrong in thinking that this is a VERY special occasion and I want to get dressed up for my husband???
This is a pretty petty question, but maybe some other wives could give their opinion or some soldiers who have come home to their wives could give an opinion. Thanks! And please be nice. :)

Yes, he is coming for R&R so it will be a civilian airport and he should be here next weekend!

No way are you wrong to want to look nice for your husband's homecoming. In my army wife mind, there is no more special occasion.
The nay sayers are probably the same wives who wear their husband's PTs in public on a regular basis.
Call me a snob, but I think dressing appropriately means you're showing that you care. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be nice.
I believe the soldiers here when they say that all he'll care about is seeing YOU, though.
If it's a major airport that's used to R&R planes coming in, like DFW, etc. They'll have a special desk set up that issues the security pass. Just ask the first person you see where it is!
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!! I still get tears in my eyes when I remember the first time I laid eyes on my husband when he came home for R&R. Revel in the moment!!

Be as sexy as you want to be... You are going to make every man jealous that they aren't your man. That is good. I wore a very nice dress, but some women showed up in jeans. I even had my 8 month old in a $100 suit. It is a very special occasion and any one who does not think so has never sat on a Navy Pier and cried when the ship finally docked. Or jumped up and down in a crowded airport in heels trying to catch a glimpse of their husband. To say it is not special is to belittle what they are doing over there and to spit on the fact that they risk their lives for us... ROCK THAT FANCY DRESS AND HEELS!!!!

I have celebrated 3 homecomings....2 from deployment and 1 for R & R. I dont go spend a bunch of money on a new outfit. I look nice, but not going to buy something that I wont wear again. Husband doesnt want to see me in something that I wouldnt normally wear. He just wants to see me...just regular ol me....not fancied up looking like someone else....just me. He wont pay attention to the clothes...just hugs and kisses. I would rather spend that money on something for him....a nice dinner out....babysitting for the kids for a few hours. *giggle* The clothes wont stay on long anyway.
At welcome home ceremonies, you will see 2 types of women's dress....the ones that are all dressed up like they are going to a party, and the ones that have their regular every day clothes on. And from where I sit (with other wives and mothers and husbands too), judgements are made about other people based on their attire.
Be careful, be tasteful, and dont go overboard. Just be you.

I am not a soldier, but if I were and I was coming home after being in Iraq the first thing I would want to see is my wife, period, but if she was wearing a beautiful dress and all decked out, wow, it would make me feel like a million bucks, this is a special occasion, him putting his life on the line, you welcoming him home, all I got to say, YAHOO for wives like YOU!

Go in what you're comfortable in. If you feel good about the dress then wear it. He's just going to be looking at you but the better you feel, the better you look.
Now if you were going to be meeting him pier side in December a dress might be too much. ;-)

Having been there, I can tell you that your heart is in the right place, but a fancy dress isn't what he wants to see.
Dress casually but sexy. If you're brave enough, wear a long coat with barely anything underneath.

It is a very special occasion, for you, and your brave husband. I think your husband would be very proud of you, to try and look your best for him. It will make you feel good, to get dressed up for him. Don't worry about what other people think of you, as long as you feel good about yourself. Your husband would be very surprised, and very grateful, if you would do a Britney. Please support our troops>>

When is he coming home? To a CIVLIAN airport? Check out the following web site...go to CONTACT US. If there's enough time, you can set up for a WELCOME HOME not many troops get. I've been to several and it's a BIG SURPRISE for the troop. I've seen a lot of wet eyes from our troops when the PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS show up to give him/her a welcome home then ESCORT them to their house!
It costs NOTHING. We do it to show honor and respect and to stand for those who have stood for us.

Check out the PHOTOS section. Pass the word.
