In his remarks yesterday he said he is meeting with the Democratic Leadership in Congress for fresh ideas on Iraq.

That's good that he is open to new ideas but executing the war is his job. The Congress's job is oversight to be sure he is doing his job honestly, legally, and competently.

I suspect the administration will be blaming the Democrats for mismanaging the war in Iraq before 2008.

It is very obvious why a victory was needed in war world 2.
Why do we need a victory in Iraq? Why do we not need a victory in Iraq.?

Why are we sacrificing so many lives in a civil war in the middle of a country that never wanted us there to begin with? Haven't any of the past wars taught us anything? All that'll happen is we'll end up back where we started only minus a couple thousand people. Why?? Why do people fight in wars that are pointless? Why can't people just make peace? There are so many things in nature that can destroy life as it is. Why create more? It's humanities fault that there's cancer like there is today. It man-kinds fault that so many things are extinct. Why can't it be that because of peace and coroperation between different peoples that world hunger and global warming are stopped. Instead of speanding billions on weapons and such use it to help others in need of it. With peace come so many good things. It only the wars would stop.

I just thought of this, this morning. Having the Democratic Party victory could put Bush in a good position to get out of Iraq in a way that saves face. The Democrats can drive the process to get it out and Bush won't have to take the heat for it as he would have if the Republicans were still in control of both houses. This could be good for Bush at least in terms of Iraq.

For goodness sake! They are red because natural poppies are red, and that's the colour they grew on the battlefields. They are symbolic of the sacrifices of war, and the memory of those who died for their country - nothing to do with religion! I would actually be quite offended if white poppies were brought in. It is fiddling with history and belittles the memory of those who died, trying to change the meaning somehow.

Get a real job, think-tank.

I think the people paying taxes to feed a soldier are just as much in the war as the infantry private with his rifle, not innocent at all, just, my opinion.

apparently next year they'll sell white poppies;personally i think this is stupid because the whole reason for the red poppy is because thats what grew over the fields after the war. yet some christians want to change it to white to be more religious. whats everyones views on this?

First of all I'm not in any history class this is for my own enjoyment

I think what I’ll find is that most people think the north were the "good guys" and the south were the "bad guys"

The war was NOT started over slavery. It was started over economical and political differences. It officially began when the north sent troops to invade Virginia. The only reason Abraham Lincoln had enough political traction to free the slaves was to further disrupt the economy of the south. I’m sure he did it for pure reasons but he wouldn’t have been allowed to do such a thing had it not been for the already existent conflict.

I guess my question is two.

1 What is the point of inaccurate history books and lessons?
2 Why do you think the civil war really happened, tell where you learned about it?

History taken in high school is next to worthless IMO.
