To be honest with you I don't think the word victory and iraq belong in the same sentence... With that said, any positive change that happens over there will have to come from within. Yes our mission is to provide the vehicle for that happen, but I'm not convinced it will in the near future.

Perhaps dividing the country up into three provinces would be an answer - but that leads to bigger problems. I think our victory will be when the troops come home once and for all, and thier victory (should it happen) will be when they can learn to live with one another.

The U.S. victory would be creating an Iraqi government that can control their land.

Step one was the creation of the democratic government. It's not going away so that was a victory.

Step two was the creation of the police and army. That's going to be achieved by the end of this year. That's over 500,000 Iraqis. The insugents can't kill that many people so that was a victory.

Step three is the handing over Iraq back to Iraq. Fifty percent will be handed back by the end of this year and probably 75% will be handed back by the end of the second quarter of next year. The insugence has no land of their own. This is the final step and so far it looks like it will turn out to be a victory.

Who's definition? To the President nothing but complete vindication of his mistake (which isn't going to happen) will be his victory. To the soldier on the ground...getting home with his butt intact would be his victory. To the Iraqi's just getting their country back would be a victory. The simple truth to all this is nobdy will win anything. A lot of people are dead that would not have died (both iraqi and American) had the U.S. just stayed home. There is no victory this time...no glory. The best "victory" that can come out of this misbegotten adventure is for somebody to say "I made a mistake, and I'm sorry."

Since we felt the bite of terrorism, we know it's a world-wide problem. Since the tad-Islams are a threat to every non-Muslim, more countries should have participated in stopping this onslaught. They believe they're on a mission from their 'man/god' to establish Islam targeting US & Israel as 2 main obstacles so we better come up with a plan SOON.
