Why are we sacrificing so many lives in a civil war in the middle of a country that never wanted us there to begin with? Haven't any of the past wars taught us anything? All that'll happen is we'll end up back where we started only minus a couple thousand people. Why?? Why do people fight in wars that are pointless? Why can't people just make peace? There are so many things in nature that can destroy life as it is. Why create more? It's humanities fault that there's cancer like there is today. It man-kinds fault that so many things are extinct. Why can't it be that because of peace and coroperation between different peoples that world hunger and global warming are stopped. Instead of speanding billions on weapons and such use it to help others in need of it. With peace come so many good things. It only the wars would stop.

I understand it was because of terrorism but how long is it taking to get under control. Shouldn't it be done with by now? Come on. Why can't we just end it and let them deal with it, who gives us the right to force them to change to our will? We can have soldiers on alert, sure, we need to protect our own but it is not our place to meddle with it. I'm sorry but that's my opnion.

It's funny how many people on here will say that the war was about terrorism, when there was no provable, significant link between Saddam, Iraq, and the terrorists. Ostensibly, we went into war b/c "intelligence" (now known to be unfounded) said that he had WMDs, and there was a fear that Saddam may use these against us (though he had made no aggressive moves to indicate that this was a threat) or that he may sell them to the terrorists (pretty unlikely, since the the terrorists THEMSELVES did NOT like Saddam, who we now know never funded or supported terrorists, and would have sought to overthrow him). The terrorists are glad Saddam is gone, they see him as a traitor to the Islamic religion. I'm glad he's gone, too, because of the atrocities he committed against his own people.
The problem is that now that we've gone in there and caused chaos, we are stuck until some kind of stability is reached, because we run the threat of creating another Afghanistan (a hot bed of extremism and terrorism, because of the chaos and instability caused after the Soviet Union occupation, when we went in and helped oust the Soviets, then left before making sure the area was once again stable.) There were not terrorists in Iraq BEFORE we went to war, but there certainly are now, so yes, NOW we are fighting the insurgents, (who are now supported by Al Qaeda) and the terrorists that came in after the war began. But terrorism, and especially 9/11, had nothing to do with why this war began. And the war has now given terrorists an opportunity in Iraq that they would not have otherwise had. We entered into a pointless war and now our boys are paying for it. If the Bush administration had an attitude more like yours, we wouldn't be in this mess, but now we have to see it through. Oh, BTW, where's Bin Laden?
p.s. It's too bad some people were so rude to you. They are just jaded jerks who can't stand ANYTHING negative being said about their "god" W, even if it's to criticize a war that anyone with any common sense can see was a mistake. Don't take it to heart.

I'll explain it in simple terms for you. The point WAS to take out a vary bad man who had lots of money to buy things under the table that could do great harm. Why? Because this isn't Utopia.

Now if you really want to stop the fighting go over there and talk to the folks that keep setting off all the bombs and killing people. Our troops will come home and you can talk them into stopping. You see how simple it all is? YOU just have to quit complaining about what's happening and do something different.

In an ancient dialog of India wars were attributed to " Jar= money, Joru=woman, jameen=land" now in the list is added religion, race, nationalities, inferiority/superiority complexes etc. .

Every living being in this world is at war to survive. White cells of our body and our immuno-proteins are constantly killing bacteria, fungi and viruses for letting us live and in the process some of these defense forces are killed. But, in human society we have got ourselves unnecessary divided into different artificial blocks. The people of one block are made to feel that they are superior than others and that the others should either change or must be changed by force. This tendency of not minding ones own business and interference in others lives causes clash. It is high time that the heads of all religions should sit together and declare that all religions are good in their own right and are the ways that lead to one God and that the one and only one worship is performing ones own duty honestly.

For peace in world the people of the world must come forward for liberation from the narrow prisons of nations, religions, races, blocks etc. Till we do not put humanity before other considerations humanity will remain a victim in the hands of hounds and wolves in the guise of humans.

We were drawn into this war on 9-11-01. We went to Iraq to stop their funding of terrorism. Do you think that the terrorists had nothing else planned? Do you think they're not still planning? Wake up!

In order to stay free and sovereign, we must fight back when people strike out at us. How can you people forget so quickly?

You can't make peace with people when what they want is to either force you to live by their extreme religion or kill you. There is no compromising there.

When you become an adult and realize that some people are just plain evil and greedy and can not be reasoned with, then you will understand. You really need to widen your circle of acquaintances. Hanging around with people who think the exact same way that you do does not challenge your intellect. It retards it.

I believe Bill Clinton had a philosopy similar to your own. He believed in a win, win situation for all. He believed that diplomacy was the answer to most int'l problems. He belived that N.Korea could be reeled in with a little sugar coated diplomacy. He didn't understand that Islam was our enemy, after all they only attacked the US on six different occasions, under his watch!

The biggest problem with your Mary Poppins beliefs is that our adversaries are not very nice people. They are out to destroy us. Not just hurt us, but destroy us! Do you understand that thought? Do you understand, that we must destroy them before they destroy us?

Right now, we only have one guy that will keep us safe. Safe from a liberal congress, and safe from stupid decisions this new liberal congress will make. These people don't have a clue about how to do the job, but reality will set in when they have issues that take real decision makers. In the meantime, we can only hope and pray that we don't have to depend on these upstarts to make thr right decisions in order to get the job done.

I'm afraid we will be back to the diplomacy table like we were with Bill Clinton.

I don't agree with how we have handled this war, but I think you are a bit misguided about wars.. if it wasn't for Wars, we would not be the country we are today, if it wasn't for wars most countries that are free today, would not be the country they are today. Wars actually can be a good thing-it helps people fight for what they want.. Hopefully one day countries like Cuba, the people will start fighting for what they want and they might be a free country one day... I'm not going to go into our past about wars, but most of them were for the good of the people... sure people die in wars, but that is the price for freedom-so that others can be free

Peace on earth, good will toward men.

Sounds good, so why can't we make it work? In my mind, the whole question becomes 'What happens if we are the first to lay down our weapons?'. How will we be treated by those who haven't laid down theirs?

I'm afraid the answer is 'They kill us'.

The war on terror, and more indirectly the war in Iraq, is the government's attempt to stop terrorism at its source. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia... they're all funding terrorists big time.

I think Bush thought we could win quickly and even if we couldn't it was important to take a stand.

Because Sadam Hussen threatened George Bush Sr during the first Iraq war.
Sadam was still in power because Bush Sr wanted to get re-elected and backed out of Iraq before the job was done so he would look like a hero by ending the war.
George W used the attack of 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq and get Sadam out of power..... he had other reasons that turned out not to be true.

He didn't have an exit strategy because he was convinced that Iraq was gonna love us......... and this is why George has been accused of being stupid

Wars are in one way the culmination of human greed. Most of the time greed for power, or for material things (like oil or other resources) that promise power. I am not aware of any way to rationalize wars, and every war that is fought always means loss for all involved parties. Even the winner loses; lives of their soldiers, reputation of their country, something is always lost.
