cheekyegg: I agree and I'm grateful that is why I want to make the peace that those brave people fought for on my behalf.

welshchick: unless some of us make a stand and say no to war the cycle of violence will repeat endlessly, so it is the best kind of optimism to say yes I would die for peace but no I would't kill for it

at last common sense on yahoo answers.
Have worn the white poppy for years now and urge others to do the same (can still wear the red one too if you want!)

Peace obviously, but let's not forget the those who died protecting us from the evil in this world!
that's what the red poppy symbolises! We will always wear one because people have died during war! It will never go away!
Whilst there are evil b@stards in this world there will always be war!
Everybody would love to wear the white poppy for peace
But we wear the Red one to remember!
MESUN I do not disagree with the white poppy, what I am saying is, to wear one this time of year, is an insult to those who died for you and I to have this freedom of speech we have today! That is why the Red Poppy will never disappear, to many families and living soldiers, who fought and live/d during wars wear it with pride!
War will always happen in our world, because you will always have the Hitlers, Bin Ladens, Saddams who will come along.
But if all wars ended, the Red Poppy will always be a symbol of remembrance for those who died for us!

The red poppies are in remembrance of fallen soldiers of all religions who fought so that you might be here free to say what you like. The white poppy is a pacifist emblem for peace and has nothing to do with the remembrance of those that died in the wars.

I am not sure what the preacher who has suggested white poppies is on about. Did only christian men die in the war? The red poppy is used because that was the flower that grew in the field where the servicemen fell. Its symbolic of that. It annoys me that they have to make everything about religion. 11th November is all about remembering the men who died in battle, not about men of a certain religion. Thats why the rememberence statues are in cities not christian burial grounds.

the white poppies are for the peace movement.
Here in Canada, the Legion(veterans society) say that the white poppy and the red poppy cant coexist.
Why?Rememberance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and a desire for peace CAN coexist

This whole white poppy thing is driving me crazy. Why don't the christians just shut up. Men & women who have fought and died in wars to defend our country fought alongside eachother regardless of race or religion.
