I could not believe this story when I read it! Surely it's 'Poppies red in Flanders field', not Poppies white!
I have never associated red poppies with any particular religion, they are surely a symbol of remembrance of sacrifice. I am an atheist, and I wear my poppy with pride, not as a celebration of war or glorification of the military, but to respect and remember people like my grandfather, who hated war and hated the army, but who signed up to fight anyway, because he knew he was fighting real and tangible evil. It is such citizen-soldiery that the white poppy brigade are insulting, and yes. they should hang their head in shame.

NO - They did the same thing with the Cross..
Rome killed Jesus and the symbol for Jesus is now the ROMAN Cross.
World War 1 & 2: Both sides were predominately Christian Soldiers Vs Christian Soldiers, so go figure - if the soldiers had all stood up for their beleifs every one of them would have been courtmarshalled (maybe even shot at dawn), and the war would have ended very quickly, due to the fact we, and the Germans would not have had an army to fight with...
The White poppy should therefore, if used, only symbolise those that refused to fight, on both sides for their spiritual beleifs...

The red poppy is for all the fallen soldiers of the great wars, and is for soldiers of all religions. The white poppy is nothing to do with the remembrance of the war dead, just a pacifists way of trying to jump on the band waggon.

i am afraid that i will also never wear a red poppy. WW1 ended nearly 90 years ago. we should all be grateful for the success of our forces and those of our allies in defending our way of life against those that would change it in two world wars. i am. i just won't wear a poppy.
