An American Brigadier was attending an Army conference that included Generals from the U.S., British, Canadian, Australian and French Armies.

At the cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a group of half dozen or so officers that included personnel from most of the countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French General suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked: "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"

Without hesitating, the American General replied: "Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German..................................."

Next summer I'm going to basic training... I'm not sure where yet, but I know I'm going as long as I pass the audition into the US Army band. Anyone have any advice for me? I'd love advice from anyone who's been through basic, but especially other women how have been through it.

I plan on reenlisting and one of the bonuses is extra Gi Bill money or 20,000 to pay student loans. the problem with the student laons is that they only pay about 500 to 600 a year, which seems hardly worth the effort of doing the paperwork. .

I want to upgrade so I can return to the Navy now that I've grown up. I want to get back out there! I know I have to seek a hearing with a review board, but what should I present to them? How do I prove to them that I'm a productive member of society, I stay out of trouble, and I'm a community helper? Do they care to read letters of recommendation? Who should those letters come from?

My boyfriend joined the national guard and he didn't really explain much to me before he left. My main question is what happens after AIT? Is he considered active duty right away or reserve and how does that work? What are his chances of going to Iraq? Thanks for any type of help!

So, I'm 19 years old and majoring in engineering. I plan to get my degree first before joining the army. I will be done in about two years.

However, after finishing my degree, I want to join the Army. My questions are:

1) How long do I have to serve. I have heard some people say two years, while others say eight years. I want to go to medical school eventually, so I don't want to spend too long in the Army.
2) What is the Individual Ready Reserve?
3) If I join the Army, what MOS's are available to me?
4) I am an Arab-American who was in Kuwait when the US kicked Saddam out, so I want to give something back to the US. I love this country and its ideals -- however, I don't feel our current political leadership lives up to its ideals. What is it like in the Army for liberals/non-Republicans? I have heard all sorts of things, like the army is super-conservative. Can any enlisted soldiers tell me what it is like in the Army politically?

Thank you so much!

Everybody was patriotic and gave 200% to the war effort.Women worked in defence plants, while their husbands and boyfriends went off to fight.Hollywood female stars sold war bonds while male stars joined the military and fought eg: James Stewart piloted a B-17 and flew bombing missions over Germany,Clark Gable was an anti aircraft gunner etc.,etc.
