I definately feel that the soldiers who protect and serve our country have a better sense of what the word freedom means. The sacrifices that soldiers have endured have allowed them to understand that freedom is not free. None of us civilians could ever come close to knowing exactly what the cost is. We have people that are very opinionated as far as this war goes and seem to have all kinds of bad opinions to throw out there and it just makes me stop and wonder if they gave any thought to what you guys go through on a daily basis. If they did I feel that they would'nt be so quick to run their mouths. You guys are giving 100% of your lives and this is even when you're not in combat. I don't believe that people grasp that. A friend in the guards once told me that when dealing with ignorant comments about our military that I should just come back at them with the question " did you serve your country today or sit on your azz and let someone else do it for you? " . We can watch the news and feel for what you may be enduring over there but none of us can say that we fully understand unless we have been there. In my opinion the only people other than the soldiers that could even come close to understanding is the families who have lost a soldier. I'll never forget a conversation that I had with another friend of mine. He was in Iraq serving as a piolot for the army and I had sent him some pics of a deer that my brother had shot this hunting season and as polite as he could he told me to tell my brother congrats on the nice buck but after being over there and watching so many deaths that he could'nt enjoy hunting anymore because he had earned a new respect for life and death. That even in the case of deer hunting he could never kill one and not think about what he had just taken. Noone sees this side of you guys too often and at that moment I realized just how hard you guys have it ........not just physically but more important emotionally. So my answer to your question would definately be a yes.

Yes. To many freedom is a word, but when you are willing to lay down your life for it, freedom takes on a whole different meaning, and when you see the cost of freedom you realize how important it is, and what a blessing it is to be from a country where generations of men and women have given the altumate sacrifice for what most take for granted. You appreciate the gift the people have given for you.

Everyone that has fought for the freedom of all the others have a different flavor or feeling for what we have done. You as you get older will find and respect your own.

Once you understand the price of our freedoms - and just how lucky we are to have them - then you can discover what 'freedom' really means.
The value we give to something typically relates to the price we paid for it. If somebody thinks that they got their freedoms for free - how can they really appreciate them?
