I would like to know when a public place ceases to be a public place. what time constraints there are. I live on a private estate where the public do not have a right of way, this is indicated on a very large sign at the start of the estate and with the exception of visiting the local attractions, these being A pub, A light railway a lighthouse and a local fish seller, there is no reason for the estate to be a public place when all these are closed. I was also taken to understand that a pub car park ceases to be a public place 20 minutes after closing , can anyone clarify this, many thanks

My brother was also abused physically and mentally by the same man between the ages of 5 and 15. He is now 30. Some of this is documented with my psychologist and once with the local police. I have not felt strong enough to bring charges against him until now. It has affected my confidence and my ability to relate to men in particular. Any answers on whether it is still possible to pursue this matter would be appreciated and is it worth seeking legal advice.

In the car with my best friend. She got pulled over found out I she had a warrant, and at the time didn't have proof of insurance in her car. Nightmare of a situation. She's didn't go to jail, mysteriously, they let her off with a warning, but she wants me to drive her to court in the morning, because she thinks she's going to jail. If she is, how much is her bail...or is this not a jail situation? What is going to happen? I feel bad for her...cuz she's really struggling right now...how much cash should I bring to help her out?

I am currently on probation for a first DWI. I am off in August, but I have been extended due to a minor previous violation, failure to contact after I moved. So a 2 year prob. has turned into three. Today I failed a UA, so I am gonna have to go before the judge. Realistically, what is likely going to happen to me? If I take it upon myself to check into a rehab before I go before the judge, is that going to improve my situation any? What is likely to happen then?

Just moved into our first home 6 months ago. Ive befriended several neighbors and all 5 have told me to "be careful" with one particular neighbor next door to me. The man is about 50-ish, lives alone, has some mental problems (vietnam or whatever), has two cats of his own. 3 neighbors have told me he was "very strange". One neighbor warned me that the guy in question threatened to kill his teenage daughter. And another neighbor told me she has found her cat in this mans house on more than one occasion. I find that strange and so did our neighbor. This man in question has been reported to the police several times with nothing to come of it (before we moved in). Today, my wife and I were looking for our cat and I saw him run out of this mans house (actually he's a renter). So what can I do? Would calling the cops help out? Do I put a restraining order on this man? Arent there some sort of disclosure laws when buying a house? Especially since theres a track record of this guy? Now what?

First off my brother drives a silver neon, well he has 20% tint wrapped all around the windows except the front windshield, there is only like two highway patrol that mess with him, and today when he called me he stated that the higway patrol officer said that this was the third ticket they issued which is $83, and that if he did not get it changed after this ticket they will throw him in jail for 24 hours min. and post bail if he wants to get out. well is that true? also they say that the two front windows have to be 35% so that the hp is not nervous when they walk up on ur vehicle but yet u can have it as dark as u want in the rear, does not make sense. also this 20% reads 14%, is that because it is baked on by his installer or what? I personally have 20% on my ride and always on the road and never get pulled over, because u can kind of see in my ride, but form 5 feet away my brothers looks like 5%, why?? does it have to with reflectivy % and what is that is it on all tints? thanx!!!

I have noticed that some people can smile, and others it seems are told not to. Do you have the "right" to smile if you want? What if you are dirty and need to clean up? I am not planning on being arrested but have noticed that some people look better than others when it comes to mug-shots. What if you wanted to wear a suit instead of t-shirt? Could a lawyer help you get a better pic or are you booked before you can see your lawyer?

Some details that may affect your answer:
-This is my second ticket within a year
-It occurred in Illinois, and I am a resident of Illinois
- It was on a five lane highway where the posted speed limit is 55, but realistically, everyone goes 70 or more.
- I was in a pack of cars that were all going about 80, and I simply got picked out.
- I felt the police officer was quite rude and curt with me.
- I am a fairly new driver who grew up overseas, and therefore was exposed to a different culture that takes a different attitude towards speeding. (this is a long shot, but maybe this angle could generate some sympathy)

I know that if the officer doesn't show up, he is violating my 6th amendment right to face my accuser, and the case will most likely be dropped.

I also heard that I can invoke my 7th amendment right to a trial by jury because the case involves more than 20 bucks. If I do this, it''ll supposedly be too expensive for the court to continue to prosecute me, and they'll drop it.

Occasionaly, I would see cops with black stripes, one or more on their badges. I was wondering why this happens, and why would cops wear more than one at a time?
