My father passed away a while ago but we haven't really contacted anyone such as bill collectors, county, etc. We do have death certificate and everything is completed but we keep getting his bills.

I know that I am not legally obligated to pay his bills but he does have a life insurance policy that my mother collected. My dad also owed me a bit of money that he had borrowed years back to buy a home and some other things. His life insurance payout was given to me by my mother to repay that debt but now we have no money to pay his own debts.

My question is.

1)once a person dies, is there some sort of authority that I must report this to other than getting a death certificate?

2)Am I liable to pay his debts even though his life insurance was used to pay back his debt to me?

Thank you.

Hi, I have a friend the USCIS alleged to have committed fraud in getting her greencard 5 years ago. She was under derivative from her US citizen mom.

The rule said, while the application is pending, she is to remain unmarried. She did. She only filed for marriage license when her boyfriend was ready for marriage, 2 months after her green card was approved.

Incidentally, she has 2 children while her application was pending but never legally married.

While staying in Indonesia, her ID card and family card were erroneously printed as married. She has obtained the record from the civil office in Indonesia stating that she has never been married.

Indonesia does not recognize common law marriage, nor California where she has been residing.

On the Notice to Appear for removal proceeding, it says that the allegation was that she claimed she was single, when in fact she was married. Does USCIS has legal grounds for the allegation? She is distressed.

I know its off of salary-but how do they really figure in some peoples cases they make too much? Shouldnt they factor in living expenses? Thats a major thing! DUH! Or do some people just live on the street and then have there kids taken away from them since they are on the street because "they make to much money" according to the government?

I came home from vacation and I noticed all this stuff missing. My lap top which was only a year old, tons of clothing, also my other roomate noticed she had missing money and clothing items as well. I filed a police report but they don't do anything. The new roomate was moved in while we were away on vacation. When we confronted her, she swears her friend stole it and her friend says she stole it. I want to do something, do I have any legal rights? What can I do to pursue this. It's really frustrating, the police say I can't do anything when i know they were the only two in the apt. when we were on vacation

She said that most performers thank Jesus for their win, she said no one had less to do with her win than Jesus. The censors are cutting that comment out of the broadcast to avoid offending people. Do you agree with the censorship?

In 2007 it is very apparent that much of what we might think of as morality has been abandoned to the marketplace. On daytime TV and in films, sex is no longer just suggested. Books/photos/films depicting extreme violence or abusive sexuality abound. O.J. Simpson's "hypothetical" account of the 1994 slaughter has been published, and I'm sure will sell. I am wondering where ( if anywhere) an ethical line should be drawn--on the part of the industry, or on the part of consumers? Does allowing almost anything to be put before the public help or hinder our society? And does that matter?

My landlady has told me that if my partner stays overnight she will take it as me giving her my two weeks notice to leave. She reckons our tennacny states that i cannot have someone staying over, but it does not say this at all, it says i cannot sublet or have a lodger. My partner usualy stays once a week but my landlady is now being funny about her staying. I am wondering if this is because we are a same sex couple. There are also a lot of other issues for example she withholds my mail from me and when her family are there she allows them to be very rude to me. I am looking for eleswhere to live but in the meantime I dont want to be evicted till I find somewhere. I ahve been a good tennant, always paid rent on time and kept the place clean and tidy. What can I do?

I am concerned that the police report won't show items that I found to be missing after I made the initial report. I called them but keep getting different info from different ppl. I have to take off work to pick this up and want to know if I should not leave until the report shows all items. I know I should just call them but the lady is so rude, she makes me feel like I'm bothering her.

I would like to get your view on this:

Last week I was pulled over for speeding, 65 in a 55..was I guilty..YES!

The officer came up on my car and asked if I know I was speeding I said yes I was...guilty! He went back to his car and wrote his ticket. He came back to my car and had me sign the ticket..I did. Then he asked me why..oh why was I speeding on his road.. officer I am guilty...I accept the punishment ($95). He wouldn't give it up...he wanted to know why I was breaking the law...it was clear he was more interested in impressing my wife than just giving me the ticket. So he kept this up over & over...why were you speeding on MY ROAD? I finally said okay heres the truth: First it's NOT your road..it belongs to ME and everyone else that WORKS in the private sector..WE pay ALL the bills..we built this road that we allow you to use. He said it makes me sick I risk my life everyday to protect your a$$. I said let me to educate you further: Being in the Insurance industry I can

Given: A house in a shore community sits on a 25 by 100 foot lot. zoning changes now require a 3 foot setback on one side and 10 foot on the other. If this house is destroyed for any reason it would require a variance to rebuild as its current footprint is 17 foot wide. can a town refuse to issue a variance in such a circumstance? If they do not, as a practicle matter, no house could be rebuilt. Does this zoning constitute a "taking"? Is ther insurance to cover the complete loss of the full property value in the event a house could not be rebuilt. the land alone is valued at $200,000. Thanks

I went to court and i keep one of the spare handcuff keyes on my keychain and they took the keys away, I understand why I cant have them in there, but then they would not give it back. They told me it was illegal to own a pair of police handcuffs. But if you go to Smith and Wesson.com, where I got mine, you can purchase them no questions asked!

I was mandated by my employer to undergo a Fitness For Duty Evaluation. Employer utilized "deception & intimidation" to ensure attendance. The Dr. also used "deception", and refused to give me a copy of the Evaluation. Stating that "no Dr. / Patient relationship" existed, so he was not required to provide one.

I was deceived by the employer into believing that I was attending this "Evaluation" as part of my recent FECA/FMLA claims for a physical injury at work. The Dr. also claimed that I would have to request my "copy" from the Department of Labor.

This "Occupational Medicine Doctor" proceeded to perform what can only be described as a "Psychiatric Evaluation". Once I finally obtained a copy of this Doctors' Evaluation, I discovered that the Dr. stated in his Evaluation that "he was not qualified to perform the requested Evaluation!"

My employers' actions and the Doctors, have caused growing stress, causing weight loss, hair loss, loss of sleep, now I wear kevlar to work.

How many of you believe if you are putting on a mother-in law addition to your house; Your town should properly inform you of all the ordinances you need to comply with? Or do you want ordincance made up at whim to prevent that addition.

I say this is assuming you like your mother or the family member who is going to move in.

I was at a party last night and the cops came and took all of our names down. Our parents had to come and get us and take us home. Since I am a minor (17) they said even though I had not been drinking I would get blamed for possesion I think. What will happen now? Will I need a court date and will this affect my future. I guess this was a case of wrong place, wrong time, but chances are my friend's actions could endanger my future. Does anyone know what will likely happen?

let's say i bought a Wheels(rims) for my car or just anything that you use it out in the open public from a someone. But did not know that it's stolen. So then somehow the original owner happens to see it, and point out that belongs to them and calls the police and have proof that it really belongs to them (maybe serial number on the product).

What are your rights in this? Do i still have rights over the good because i bought it or will the police just confiscate it and i loose the money i bought it with? How will this turn out?
