I came home from vacation and I noticed all this stuff missing. My lap top which was only a year old, tons of clothing, also my other roomate noticed she had missing money and clothing items as well. I filed a police report but they don't do anything. The new roomate was moved in while we were away on vacation. When we confronted her, she swears her friend stole it and her friend says she stole it. I want to do something, do I have any legal rights? What can I do to pursue this. It's really frustrating, the police say I can't do anything when i know they were the only two in the apt. when we were on vacation

You could take her in the basement and get medieval on her [donkey] but I don't recommend it. You have exhausted your legal recourse.

The problem you are running in to is this, you have no proof that a specific person stole the items. Since you have filed a police report, you can contact the pawn shops in the area and check to see if any of your items have turned up.

If you find an item that was stolen inform the pawn shop owner, however do not recover it yourself, contact the police and advise them where you found it.

Legally, you can't do anything if the police won't pursue them as suspects. You could, however, beat the crap out of them, but then they would turn you in for assault, so you're kinda out of options. I hoped you kicked them out and they are not still living there.
