I was at a party last night and the cops came and took all of our names down. Our parents had to come and get us and take us home. Since I am a minor (17) they said even though I had not been drinking I would get blamed for possesion I think. What will happen now? Will I need a court date and will this affect my future. I guess this was a case of wrong place, wrong time, but chances are my friend's actions could endanger my future. Does anyone know what will likely happen?

Well I hope you learn from this, I am sorry that you were rapped up in this. You will have to go to court and will fined as minor in possession and they could give you probation. good luck

a.) your friends' actions didn't endanger your future... your actions endangered your future! unless they tied you down to a chair and wouldn't let you leave take a little responsibility!!!

b.) This will probably not affect your future that bad! unless you are going for a political position or something like that. Lots of people get busted for underage drinking! just stay out of trouble!

c.) you might get a court date, but chances are you will just have to meet w. a probation officer and you will probably be on probation until you are 18!

d.) you are still legally a minor (under 18) so this won't go on your adult record... but while i'm on that topic! if you ever are asked to disclose any problems w. the law make sure you disclose any underage incidents! they don't go away!!

This is a misdemeanor and is not that big of a deal, you will just have to pay the fine for minor in possession of alcohol, in my city it is $262 ticket. Just be sure to pay for the fine or ask for deferred adjudication. A deferred sentence will put you on probation for like 6 months and if you don't get into trouble or any other tickets it will go away. This will not affect your criminal history, this is the same level offense as running a stop sign or speeding.

Just be sure to show up, usually within 10 to 15 days to the court house and pay the fines. If you do not show up 2 warrants will be put out for your arrest, one for the possession and one for failure to appear.

Good luck, it is no big deal. I had a MIP when I was 17 and I now work for a PD. Just be honest with any potential employers.

Probably you'll pay a fine.

It happened to me at your age.

Didn't affect me getting a security clearance in the Army, or stop me from being admitted to practice Law.

It won't affect your future.
