Last week I was pulled over for speeding, 65 in a 55..was I guilty..YES!

The officer came up on my car and asked if I know I was speeding I said yes I was...guilty! He went back to his car and wrote his ticket. He came back to my car and had me sign the ticket..I did. Then he asked me why..oh why was I speeding on his road.. officer I am guilty...I accept the punishment ($95). He wouldn't give it up...he wanted to know why I was breaking the law...it was clear he was more interested in impressing my wife than just giving me the ticket. So he kept this up over & over...why were you speeding on MY ROAD? I finally said okay heres the truth: First it's NOT your road..it belongs to ME and everyone else that WORKS in the private sector..WE pay ALL the bills..we built this road that we allow you to use. He said it makes me sick I risk my life everyday to protect your a$$. I said let me to educate you further: Being in the Insurance industry I can

Not at all, some officers need an ego check now and then. The beautiful thing is that you had an educated answer and it probably threw him off, hes used to people flying off the handle and making asses out of them self's. Good for you!

Cops can have a bad day too. You probably did over react a bit but so did the officer.
Confrontation usually begets confrontation. It is good that you two did not escalate any further than you did.
Such comments as you made should be reserved for your attorney (should you have decided to contest the citation) who would have been able to present the meaning of them in court for you.

BTW, as you already stated, the police are there to protect you as well as to enforce the laws. In the 'old' days, the cop would have given you a 'proper dressing down' on the spot as well as a ticket.

You could have said many things, and the officer could have just given the ticket and been on his way. We all get irritated if we feel we are being interrogated. Me, I don't think I would have taken an attacking stance. EDIT: I live in Indiana, 1 month ago a State Trooper pulled over to help who he thought was a stranded motorist. When he approached the car, he was shot and killed for no reason. The suspect was a wanted criminal from Michigan, but the trooped was unaware of this.EDIT2: You antagonized the officer with your attacking stance, he became agitated with you, and took the same. Became a"pissing match", battle of ego's. You both over reacted.

It's unforntunate that you came upon an officer who seems a bit frustrated at why so many people fail to comply with the rules of the road.

Understand that when officers see the end result of how some operate their vehicles so recklessly, it begins to become a bit overwhelming at times.

I feel, personally, that this officer should have been more professional in his ability to restrain himself and his personal issues, however, he like the rest of us, is only human subject to making mistakes as well.

Sadly, we often overlook the stresses of certain professions be they law enforcement, pilots, medical, or any other profession!

I can also understand your frustration and would say that I hope you can forgive the officer for acting in the heat of the moment.

Do try to remember that we all share the same roadways therefore we all have a responsibility not only to ourselves but to our fellow drivers to insure we all drive safely.

Best wishes.

Actually you got lucky... in may areas you would have been handcuffed or beaten or both along with your wife and then booked for some trumpted up charge. You seem to forget that the Police are not your friend they are nothing more than random tax collectors for the state. They do not protect and serve anymore (they even removed that slogan from their cars)... But in your situation you should have just been polite to the a$$hole and then danced a little jig every time you read or hear about one of the uniformed bullies pushing up daisies.

Did you overreact? a little...but the officer definitely was not behaving as he should have. And yes it is the officers road too...he does pay taxes just like you.....a simple "officer, it is such a nice road I thought I would enjoy the feel of it" would have alleviated the situation...it is never a good idea to become confrontational with a member of law enforcement

I think you over reacted but not horribly. Getting a ticket for 10 miles over the speed limit is annoying. It is interesting that the officer called the road my road.He obviously takes his job very serious. Police officers are a necessary evil in my mind.I would like to think they are sincerely interested in our safety but a traffic ticket shows they are doing their job and they are making money for their city, county or state. Just be thankful that your job does not require you to constantly punish people.

Rule #1: Never EVER (unless your life absolutely depends on it) admit to a policeman that you were speeding or breaking any other traffic laws, the constitution protects you from self-incrimination. If you're asked if you know how fast you were going, say you were doing the speed limit. If you admit to any violation, you give up your right that protects you from self-incrimination and open the door to questioning. Policemen are trained to use intimidation tactics to make you relinquish your rights, but you ARE protected as long as you don't give them up. In this case, you gave up your rights, which gives him the right to question you.

Yes,

They all ask that question even when you are alone in your car. Just say I was not paying attention to the speed and they will just leave you alone. Then you do not have to spend more time on the side of the road.

It seems like the office was on his high horse...most are.
Next time, just sign the ticket and tell the officer to have a great day!
