I am having difficulties understanding the Supreme Court decision on Fowler v. Board of Education of Lincoln County. 484 U.S. 986 (1987) I am writing a case brief and as an elementary teacher, I am not quite understanding the legal terminology. It involved wrongful termination of a teacher due to explicit material shown in the class. What I am trying to determine is if the Supreme Court ruled for the teacher at the District Court level, or if the Supreme Court sided with the School board for the teacher's misconduct.

Thanks so much for any feedback!

Hi I received a letter from my letting agency saying that they had a serious complaint about anti social behaviour and noise relating to my apartment! It wasn’t anti social behaviour it was a birthday party and friends just having a good time! It the first time I’ve had such a letter and I don’t know what to do or say? The people living in my new area are all snobs and don’t like noise at all so have complained to the site manager who in turn has contacted my letting agents.

Can they evict me on hear say (if in future they receive again)? Do they need evidence to do anything? One complaint surely is premature for a warning? Any ideas how to reply to this letter?

Thanks everyone

I just saw a video of a woman provoking a fight with a man for having made some lewd comments about her, and the man fought back and inevitably "won". She was getting verbally and physically aggressive with him, and by the time she started throwing punches at his face, he decided that enough was enough, gave her a good, hard knock against the head and she was stunned enough not to get back up and start yapping like some chihuahua in heat.
There were many comments commending the girl for "putting up a fight" (even though she lost) and looking down on the guy for hitting a woman.
I don't get this logic. Say you come across a bear. Do you think that by being weaker, slapping the bear in the face would only make him restrain you lol? Why is it the man's responsiblity to not hurt the woman, when the real responsibility should be on the woman to know that she'd never hold her own in a fight against a fully-grown man? And why hit him? Tell the loser off and just leave!

I live in the Bay Area, and I sought help from the NAACP to help me with a case that involved my former school, and was told they didn't have the resources {after about 8 months of me sending them documentation}to help me with my case.

{Of course, I wouldn't be able to go into depth on that case, which is being handled with the Department of Education}.

This is interesting because I notice that they take high-profile cases, i.e. the Michael Vick case, and a police case that got the front page on the San Jose Mercury.

As a company that supposedly helps people no matter who they are, and no matter their status, this was disappointing....

Whom would l file a complaint with this company? {The Better Business Bureau already told me they do not handle my type of complaint, which is not a business/consumer complaint}.

Like when you go shopping at a store, and go through the checkout and on the way out an employee asked to see your receipt and look into your shopping bag, do they have a legal right to do so? I know your probably asking "if you have nothing to hide why don't you show your bag"...I'm just trying to find out what my legal rights are. The only exception I could find would be at Costco since you agree when getting a membership to consent to this search.

I recently transferred to a new department, and the management don't want to address particular issues. There is a man who works with me, who used to be a supervisor somewhere else, but he still thinks that he is one.

This man shouts a lot, offers unfair criticism, and interferes when he is not asked to. He has done this to me and other people. I brought it to the Managments attention, they witnessed it going on, but did nothing.

They are not interested, and were very quick to try and discipline me about a matter recently. They seem to think it is acceptable for him to behave this way, as he has family problems. Yet when I had family problems, they tried to discipline me.

I have now got to the point when I just answer him back or yell back at him. But the management don't like that either, and seemed to think that I should just be able to ignore him, and put up with it.

Would you leave, would you answer him back/yell back at him or would you just keep quiet and put up?

I received a notice of a $70,000.00 sweepstakes win in the mail from some outfit called "Swiss Financial Solutions." They have a Niagara Falls address but do not appear in the Yellow Pages or any online search. The notice came with a legitimate-looking check for $3,650.00 that was supposed to be used to cover a "Non-residence Tax." It said to call a phone number in Ontario to obtain a "Tax Identification Number" which was required to release the $70,000.00. When I dial it, I'm told that the call cannot be completed as dialed. Is this a scam?

I keep reading for years of brief interviews from police chiefs to attorneys for anyone thinking of and/or encouraging violating another's civil rights to "not go down that road." But I -never- hear in detail what the punishment is for doing such.

I know it may vary from state to state, but what is the generally the penalty? Jail time for the offender? Monetary fine (if so how much)? Or both? Or is it just a slap-on-the-wrist warning?

I take it when law and order tells the public here to "not go down that road," the consequences must really be stiff.

Does anyone else think that's a pretty thin standard to ruin a guy's life on? Bathroom freaks aparently have pretty subtle codes to look innocent - but doesnt that also make innocent people look guilty? I dont mind personally that Larry Craig is ruined whether he was innocent or not, he ruined enough people with his H-1b visa votes. But the Duke Lacrosse case makes me uncomfortable with making that kind of evidence a standard.

For example Law Enforcement and Government?

I think that when people hold such power and have been known to abuse it, is a reason to be sceptically of their motives... Its just human nature of people not to give total and absolute trust & blind faith in individuals in general...

I think we learn to be cautious of people very quickly at a young age... Like the First time someone jumps off the bottom of the Sea-saw/Tetter-Totter & your at the top on the other end. I just think that People do things out of pure human nature and have thier own self-interests.

I think its nieve to believe that Politicians and people in Authority put ALL Our Best Interests first before theirs.
