Not very, according to the following, from Yahoo News -

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - A British primary school teacher has been arrested in Sudan, accused of insulting Islam's Prophet by letting her class of 7-year-olds name a teddy bear Mohammed, her school said on Monday

Colleagues of Gillian Gibbons, aged 54 from Liverpool, told Reuters they feared for her safety after receiving reports that young men had already started gathering outside the Khartoum police station where she was being held.

Teachers at Unity High School in central Khartoum said Gibbons made an innocent mistake and simply let her pupils choose their favourite name for the toy as part of a school project.

Police arrested Gibbons on Sunday at her home inside the school premises, said Unity director Robert Boulos, after a number of parents made a complaint to Sudan's Ministry of Education.

Boulos said she had since been charged with "blasphemy", an offence he said was punishable with up to three months in prison

IF President Bush and all his men were truly interested in slowing down the tide of illegal immigrants, all they would have to do is enforce current employment law. With American corporate profiteers willing and able to break laws to increase their bottom line, and our current leadership's willingness to ignore it, one can only expect future problems.

This political negligence serving the White House's constituents can be found if one "follows the money." Bush's proclamation that illegal immigrants are doing work Americans are not willing to do is laughable. America did just fine before this tsunami of immigrants, did it not? What has riled and straitjacketed local and state government to no end is that it is this same federal government that comes down with all its powers to punish those who follow existing laws.

I recently watched a Texas businessman on CNN desperately explain that he had no illegal immigrants to harvest his crops. This farmer stated that it was because of a local construction boom and the illegals went off to higher-paying jobs in the city.

This farmer's worry illustrates the problem. Immigration is all about money and always has been. Farm labor, like being a McDonald's hamburger flipper, has always been entry-level employment.

Will illegal immigrants do our entry-level work for the rest of their lives? That is an insulting notion. As soon as opportunity knocks as a result of all their hard work, they will move on to something better, like all of this nation's former immigrants. If allowed, illegal immigrants and/or their children will be future professionals and public leaders. Make no mistake about it.

Has anyone yet realized that many illegals themselves have businesses and are employing people. We are way past the stage where we can just say, "It's business hiring them."

And those here illegally are not just doing meanial jobs. They own businesses selling satellite TV systems, car lots, restaurants, restaurant chains, car repair facilities, stores, sign companies, printing companies.

Where do the silly notions come from that it is the darn employers and those here illegally can only be found in a field, washing dishes or making beds at hotel?

What would you do if your husband had a "friend" who is a totally dishonest pig in human clothing? I mean, this guy runs an illegal IT training "institute" where he trains people who aren't even educated, creates fake resumes, and then since he is a project manager, he goes from project to project firing other well qualified workers who have done nothing wrong, to give the job to his own students who then bribe him $2 per hour for the duration of the project. THat doesn't sound like big money but it is, he makes like $40K per month doing this and those guys he places in his projects don't even know their own work!

I don't know what company he is working for, but he is always bragging about getting rid of "goras" (Americans) and ripping off our country. I think he is an H1b holder, and I know for a fact all of his students are.

I am fed up with him. What can I do?

I mean giving some people permits to immigrate for say construction or farming with the understanding that their time would be limited. Although they could extend it if they were still working on a project..for example mine construction or civil/infrastructure.

And they or their employer would have to post a performance bond for their behaviour in country and agreing to leave when their time is over.

I don't say this is the total solution to problems of illegal immigration. I suggest that it is a way to get honest people who are willling to work and who want to do the right thing.

What do you think? :)

Does acting in an illegal manner make you a criminal, or not?

I was just sitting here reading about the Social Security revisions they want to make with the election of our new President. Now, This is not a hate thing against any one person, but dont you feel a little ripped off by all the aliens taking up residency in the good old USA, and soon we.. that were born and raised here, and worked ALL our lives to support it, by our taxes, and blood, sweat, and tears...are gonna overcrowd the system by applying for part of OUR money, and WE are stuck getting reduced benefits, because of it ? I know people come here to better their lives, but that is what is gonna leave ME and YOU, an ORIGINAL USA CITIZEN with ZIP.

Nowadays all immigrants want to become citizens, but many of them don't understand the meaning of what it is to be a citizen. If I say I am an American citizen (I'm not, but I'm hoping to become), it means that I have full regard for American society, earned respect from the people here, mix well with all people regardless of their race or religion & I will be willing to give my life for America. But a lot of immigrants who become citizens do not feel thqat way - they say that they want citizenship only because of the legal benifits it gives them???

If I wanted to just work, earn money and gain experience here - I can settle for a Green card. But if I become a citizen, then it means I have or must assimilate with the American culture & have high regard for the nation.

What do you feel about this?

Many people are against illegal immigration - On CNN there is always some special about the border and securing it. People complaining about the problem.( Even though the terrorists came here LEGALLY ).

Then I see literature on buildings " se habla espanol" and many
utility services that put their automated systems in spanish as well.I see "Rebelde" dolls in the store and CDs . Rebelde is a program that is on the Spanish channel. Then there is the show "Ugly Betty" which is a spin off of the Spanish TV show " La Fea mas Bella" .

Is there a mixed message here ? So many people don't want Illegal immigration but there are so many serices that seem to accomodate illegals and says that yes they are welcome. What is the deal ? What does America want?

Hasn't illegal immigration existed for ages? Then why has it become a hot button issue only very recently?

Is it because only now the media have chosen to target it - or has it really increased in the last few years? If so, why has it increased?

If the companies are paying meager salaries to the illegal immigrant workers, is it mainly because:

[A] The companies are greedy and want to maximize profit, even at the cost of disgracing their own people

[B] The companies are forced to pay low salaries because of the severe lack of funding to run their business

[C] Same as option B, but the lack of funding is because the funds have been directed towards the Iraq war.
