What about housing prices and availibilty of jobs?

BUT first you have to apply for become a permanent resident. That can take up to 2 years to be processed. (depending on which category you apply in).

And when you arrive in Canada, you must then wait another 3 years before you can apply to be a citizen. And that processing can take as much as 12 months. So all told, it can be as much as 6 years.

Can you wait that long?

Americans are no longer allowed to just walk in and expect to receive privileges. They have to get in line just like everyone else.

A person from the US will not get a hard time becoming a Canadian as long as he has a credible bank account, good paying job and higher educational attainment.
