Immigration - November 2007

Recently, the news has said that there has been an influx of undocumented Haitian immigrants coming into Canada. However, unlike America,Canada accepts them as refugees given Haiti's terrible conditions. They have Haiti as one of the most dangerous countries on their list currently and do not allow them to be deported. How do you feel about this? I have lived in Florida and New York City, two places with high Haitian populations. I am fascinated with their culture and history and have many Haitian friends. There were many ridiculous stereotypes about them though. Why? I really don't know. So Canadians, what do you think: should your country let the Haitians stay or no? What do you think of the current Haitian residents? Is this a good idea or not?

crimes that should never occur here, refusal to learn the language, increasing demands and entitlement, uninsured drivers and - in March of this year - behavior like this:

...wouldn't we all just look the other way?

When talking about illegal immigration? I'm sick of hearing comments like "Were your ancestors from Europe 'legal'?" (I'm not even white by the way)

"Everyone here is illegal except the Natives Americans"

"This land truly belong to Native land until white people came and took everything..."

Blah Blah Blah!

Seriously people, this all happened HUNDRENDS of years ago! Get over it already!

Yes what happened with the Native Americans was sad and tragic, no doubt about it. It truly was a terrible period in our history, but c'mon now, it's seriously time to move on. Brooding and complaining about what happened in the past is not gonna go back in time and prevent it from happening.

Here in 2007, we have laws that you must follow. What's so difficult about that to understand?

Do you notice in America especially in NY when going though the neighborhoods, the white people live in one area, the blacks in another area and the Chinese and Hispanics etc are in another area. Should the real estate agencies be blamed for this segregation or ourselves? I was talking to this lady the other day and she said she moved out of a particular area when the first black person moved into the neighborhood. I dont know if I should be insulted but anyway what do you think?

Bashing illegal immigrants didn't work in the election of Nov. 2006. The racist, anti-immigrant Republicans especially in Arizona were defeated by a landslide!!
And it'll happen again if Republicans try to use the elections to bash Latino immigrants. There are too many Latinos and using hate against them to get votes will only piss them off and get them to really get out there and vote.

We are probably the only country in the world that would put up with this abuse of allowing illegal aliens enter our country and sponge off its taxpayers. Sometimes i think we Americans are real saps for putting up with this mess.

You know having to be bilingual to get a job, having to press 1 for English, people at Home Depot or a fast food place not understanding your order cause they can't speak English, etc.

Are Americans becoming less tolerant towards this?

The government has ignored public opinion about illegal immigration, it has lavished our money and services on people who have not earnt it and it has eroded the "rights and culture" of the British citizen to a point where they feel 2nd class to everybody else.
Who else can sense a backlash coming?
Who else feels that this uncontrolled rage is going to effect everybody of "ethnic" heritage?
Should the government be doing something NOW to prevent a simple problem being used by bigots to cause the trouble they have always wanted?

I have yet to meet an american or legal immigrant who agrees with the above statement.

"This mantra is mercilessly bandied about by illegal immigration supporters and echoes throughout the halls of Congress and the White House whenever the topic comes up. What is never mentioned, however, is that the illegal aliens are artificially depressing compensation and that illegal aliens are the only ones who will do the work at such low wages. In actual fact, illegal immigration distorts the law of supply and demand in a capitalistic society. Additionally it is grossly hypocritical to want to raise the minimum wage on one hand while the other hand winks at illegal aliens working at far below prevailing wages."

Hello,

friends, i have travelled to europe to many countries many times and discovered that "illegal human trafficking" is on full boom in punjab.

What we see here in newspapers is a tip of an iceberg.

We all need to come forward and make an platform of awareness. So that people can adopt legal ways to travel to Europe and get settle there.
