I am sick of putting up with that. But, I would not work for a company that required me to know Spanish. This is the US and we speak English here.

It's not just Spanish that I'm fed up with, its anyone speaking in a public place using their "ethnic" language.
Consider two Muslims, sitting in a restaurant talking in IRAQI about their plans to do a mission.
How do you know what they are saying??
If you are an American, use the language of choice by the MAJORITY!
Back in the day, our founding fathers could have easily chosen German, French, Spanish as about all of these were involved in the oriigin of this country. Yet they chose English and a version now known as AMERICAN is used throughout the country.

I don't know about all over the country, but here in this part of Florida where I live, people are getting much less tolerant. Printing (information, instructions, rules, etc.) is costing both companies and the government much more to do it bi-lingual. Thus, the cost is passed on to the citizenry. If one were to live in another country, you have to learn the native language. Immigrants need to know the English language if 1) they are lliving here as citizens; 2) they work where interfacing with the public is a must; 3) to understand our laws. With the increasing of other Eurpean and Asia communities, where will the line be drawn on multi-lingual printing, etc? As a native born American citizen, try taking a driver's test or go to vote while having someone else in the booth with you - it is not allowed, but bi-linguals have that previlige. What is fair?

I do not need to know Spanish, or Mexican Spanish, I live in America, I speak American English.
If the Mexican people are as smart and hard working as they claim, why don't they learn a language my 7 year old can speak? Doesn't that make my family smarter?

I think so. I think the Spanish need to learn English and learn it quickly if they plan on working OR buying in the USA. If I moved to Mexico from the USA, I would learn Spanish before I left the USA so I could communicate where I planned on living.

I don't mind speaking or learning spanish or any other language if it helps me talk to the cuties...
but, I don't like being forced to use it, or having to pay for translation on government documents in the many languages of the world in order to comply with federal law. The translation burden should be borne by those needing the service, not everyone else. \
once again, the illegals get by as cheap as possible at others expense then cry that it is their right. it is their right to get a translator or learn the language of the land. they shouldn't even be here anyway to be demanding the spanish. last time i checked non-citizens don't have a vote, unless they are doing voter fraud like they commit every other fraud.

Not everyone is a poyglot but many of us do speak more than one language. If we give the Spanish language such clout, isn't that discrimination to the other foreign speaking people in America? We might have a platform if we take that stance! But yes to your question, I'm sick of it!

Spanish is different from all other languages in the U.S. today as it is demeaning cultural diversity. In a crowd of, say, 200 Americans, one should expect to find several languages spoken in addition to English. I speak Chinese. Many of my friends speak German, French, Japanese, etc.
We're reaching the point where the only languages you hear are English and Spanish...NO CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT ALL!!!
It's nonsense to think this Latin-American invasion is somehow contributing to cultural diversity.

One should NEVER have to learn a second language just to earn a basic living. Doing that puts a lot of people who just barely make it now into financial jeopardy. Imagine losing your home after losing your job because you weren't bilingual.
Speaking as a linguophile, I am of the opinion that when language learning becomes a survival skill, and not just something fun and as a bridge to other cultures, it only breeds resentment and content for the language - not healthy.
