everyone acts as if indian kids played in rivers of sweet chocolate with bubble gum drop smiles on their faces and everything was perfect before the white man showed up. fact is indians were waging brutal wars against each other long before that. and how come nobody ever asks why the indians didn't embrace diversity when mr. euro showed up? i'm speaking tounge in cheek of course, but the point is there's plenty of blame to go around in every direction. i agree it's time to forget about the past and just deal with the here and now.

I have always been intriqued by Native American spirituality. I grew up in Northern Wisconsin. There was a small percentage of Native Americans in that town (maybe 5%). I also took a couple of Native American classes in college there. I still don't know too much about their "faith" though. From my limited knowledge, I think they believe in one, great spirit that rules and controls all things on earth. So in that respect, I think the two "religions" are similar. However, I also believe that there is no actual relationship between the two "religions" because that belief by Native Americans probably developed quite seperate from Christianity. Again, I don't know how closely the two are related. These are just my speculations but I would find researching the subject to be fascinating.

I agree that we should live in the present but those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Is there a culture on this planet that did not use slavery? No. Is there a culture who did not enjoy the spoils of war? No. So why are Americans the only ones charged with slavery and war victims? It's totally old and trite. Enjoy the nation that Americans built and the laws that protect us and demand that those who come here do the same. Not too difficult to get, is it? These illegals will stop at nothing to legitimize their debauchery and thieving ways, so far they still lose! Time for them to accept 2007 and either come here legally or plan on deportment! It's the law!

Well, the problem with dragging the "Native Americans" into it, is that the illegals are coming for the benefits of the American nation and not the American Indian Nation.
They are coming for the "American Dream" as set up by the colonists who fought for their independence. Rules and laws were set up and many hundreds more immigrants would come to this land, learn the customs and the language, and follow the rules and laws to become legal citizens of this "new" nation.
There is nothing wrong with wanting part of the "American Dream." But you have to become an American first. And there's a legal way to do that.

I agree.
that said...
lets explicate:
the reality is that there were not any such immigration laws to be broken or ignored and even in civilized european countries immigrants were often mistreated and their rights and property disputed.
everyone here has heard of the word WAR before, right?
in the past, people fought it out and killed each other over just about everything.
Now we have law, and people mostly want there
not
to be law, unless it protects them specifically.
war was a natural event ordained by god to be won by the morally superior.
they try to tear down the morality issues by denying the power of righteous WAR.
The savages and inferior must be killed so the strong may prosper. Now we coddle the weak in guilt for the blood our ancestors spilled with the sanctions of their culture and human mentality of the age. WAR was natural. KILLING was natural.
we are now NOT NATURAL.
we are mostly CIVILIZED and no longer follow the barbarous rules of human nature.
unfortunately the savages who choose to be sneaky INVADERS do not honor law and choose to prefer the old ways and dream of their own cultural superiority where their children will be free to carry on old customs and traditions that make the old people comfortable knowing their ways will live on...
I prefer the law, but it must be
ENFORCED.
yeah, the past is pertinent, but the reality is
NOW
ENFORCE THE LAWS !!!

I'm glad you acknowledged the sins of the past, Sandman, to do so will prevent similar atrocities of occurring again.
You are right about moving on. We all must learn from the past and succeed in life, not remain oppressed by the memory of past injustices. Anger can bound a person tighter than the chains of oppression and slavery if not conquered.
America, allows ALL of it's citizens to have equality and freedom, while embracing the beauty of multiculturalism.
NO other nation, in this universe is as successful with equality and freedom for so many groups of diverse people.

Even to the extent there were egregious wrongs done, most native Americans (myself included) have mixed with the Europeans and vice versa.
MORE IMPORTANTLY... the "Land" is hardly the issue beyond the fact that, once a law-based economy and society has been established thereon, it's quite a challenge to move over a couple hundred miles.
What the early British did here was, initially quite similar to what the Natives did in final product. Farm, hunt, just let nature add value and humanity reap that value.
With science and technology, though, WE add the value, BIG TIME.
And by "we", I mean ALL WHO BELIEVE IN LAW AND LEARNING ENOUGH TO PARTICIPATE AND CONTRIBUTE.
Has nothing to do with what percent Choctaw or Seminole I am. Only with how determined I am to learn higher math and science and abide by law.

Because Native American were "victims". They were conquered by the Europeans first and the the early Americans just like the Europeans conquered, and the Mongols, conquered, and the Romans conquered all throughout Europe and Asia. It make the some conquerers feel better about themselves to treat those that they have conquered victims. But, given the chance, they wouldn't give back what they have. Moreover, when the immigration laws were enacted, most all Europeans were indoctrinated into the United States with pride.

I live in Oklahoma the Indian belt. There are many here, especially Choctaw and Cherokee. I am proud of them and for the land they gave up and the things they had to go through. They have been entitled to many things now.
The bingo places are really big hits, commodities and health care are great for those who gave all this for the Americans.===

It's a tactic meant to divert and obfuscate, rather than address the current issues. If what happened in the past is exoneration for the present, then it's rationally acceptable to enforce total slavery upon the illegals, or to shoot and kill anyone who comes later and steps foot on any land already occupied.
Since neither is a viable alternative, then a codification of laws is all that is available, and if previously unworkable laws were effective, they'd not have been changed to the current laws. Any current laws that are ineffective need to be changed, not simply ignored at will, or we revert back to the scenarios of slavery or killing for trespass.
