La Raza is a racist Hispanic organization. It's basically the KKK for Hispanics.

well the first time i heard that saying it was from this song when i was way youger.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5lbdMjJyRn4

And for me it has always ment my family, my friends, & my people.

It would not make sense to say the race because mexican is not a race. Its just the name of a country and has only been called mexico for about 200 years. And the people who live in mexico are diverse you could put them in a pie chart like you do with the people in the united states. So when someone crosses the border illegally they might be mexican but they might also be black, white, red, even yellow, or a mix of colors.

It's like saying: my people or my culture in english. I am a spanish person and I can tell you that the mexican people are the unique ones that use that phrase " Viva la raza". But it just show the proud that they have for who they are and where they come from. The spanish is my first lenguage and for that reason I'm pretty sure of what I'm talking about. For example: when a mexican says: "La raza está unida" that means in english " Our people are joined". I hope this explanation help you in some way. Byeeeeee and kisses, muaaaa. Ah! and sorry if there is some mistake in my writing, but, I'm still learning the english idiom. Ok, bye Sigy. ♥

"La Raza" means, literally, "The Race".

But that confuses me, because which race are they speaking of? Criollo? Indio? Mestizo? Caribe? Lots of races in Central and South America, the only thing most of them have in common is Spanish, and there are over twenty dialects of that.

And then there are the Portuguese speakers from Brazil, which has its own rainbow of racial types.

So, pretty much, "La Raza" to me is just...confusing.

It is a very confusing term that illegal Mexicans use to make Americans believe that all Latinos/Hispanics are from the same country, (Mexico), of course it is not true.

wikipedia puts it this way...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Raza

to me the implications can go two ways.... one way is for hispanics to be supportive of people they recognize as sharing their culture for the betterment of those who might not succeed without some assistance... that, in my way of thinking, is wonderful.

the other side of the coin, as exemplified by many of the other google hits for "la raza" is one of separateness and divisiveness, just as bad as the other posts here that suggested you go somewhere else to ask the question.

if it brings people together for everyone's benefit, i'm for it. if it's used to say, "we're better than you are" OR "you're worse than we are," i will oppose it.

it is, of course, your choice as to which way you'll use the term. but whenever words like "the race" or "the people" pop up, most of the time it's for divisiveness, not inclusion. it separates people who might otherwise work together to help each other.

your choice.

It is a term of non acceptance and promotes racism. It promotes separatism and might at times seem beautiful to non-educated people.

La=the, as in singular. Raza= race. La raza= the race. It is one of the most bigoted terms in use by any group in America today. This is not my meaning or any single persons meaning. This is the dictionary meaning and what racist mexicans mean when they use it.
