Immigration - November 2007

I am hoping to go to the US very early next year to see my Fiance. I have never travelled to the US before (she normally comes to me in the UK).

Okay, my problem is this - I have a criminal record. None of the offences are what would be classed as Felonies - they are all minor and not drug, violent or sexual related. The majority are road traffic offences, although a few are minor crimes.

The visa system seems long winded and I hope to be there at the end of January. The airport I'll be landing at is San Francisco. Could they actually tell if I have a record? Would it just be possible to travel under the visa waiver program and not declare my record?

If I have to go through with the visa, how long would it take?

Someone, please give me some hope!!!!!!!!

I keep reading screeds of excuses for illegal immigration on YA. Supporters of Hispanic illegal immigration claim that Native Americans originally "owned" America. This logic of The Pro Illegal Activists concludes with an ardent belief that Americans have no right to tell foreigners to keep out of the United States...for ANY reason. What do you think of this land rights issue and of the, "This land belongs to everyone," movement?

I need to renew passport issued 11 years ago - expired last year. Last time, there were designated photography shops that offerred packages; first 2 required for passport at certain fixed charge, additional copies (needed for visas for some countries) at certain incremental rates. The photo technology has advanced since then. So have the charges. My inquiry for rates at some of the places resulted in quotes between $8 -$12 per first set (2 copies), additional copies at the same rate.
---The state dept. is very much justified for the stringent rules.
---The post office is justified charging higher rate for pictures -they are doing a great favor to the applicant who did not bring along the required pictures.
The open competition between closely located neighborhood stores should drive the prices down in favor of consumers - unless this is a price fixing between so called competitors. This is late for me but - Any alternatives to this HIGHWAY ROBBERY?

that we anti's don't hate immigrants?
we don't care who comes here as long as they do it legally.
thats all we are asking...come here legally or don't come at all.
you try and make it about race...it's not.
we don't want any illegal here no matter what race they are.

and working jobs americans won't is not a good enough answer.
because, yea they work for $5 an hour but they can afford to get paid so less because they don't have to pay for health care, they don't have to pay for education, they get section 8 housing, they get food stamps, they are eligable for reductions on living expenses that American tax payers have to cover, so tell me how to they benifit us? oh ya i forgot the bar is lowered in schools because they don't have to learn english, everything is translated for them, they use us to get free eduaction then they send the money they make back to their home planet. we must protect our boarders. and yes at some point everyone immagrated here from somewhere else, but i am talking about society today.

What qualifies people to have certain rights? Is it simply being born here of parents who were also born here?

...for illegal immigration from Mexico to the US Southwest? Or should the 1840's be left in the past?

I think Finland used to be part of Sweden centuries ago. Time for the Swedes to settle all over Finland and not obey the laws.

It's a shame to see how disrespectful people are towards others nowadays because immigrants committed a crime by coming to America. I do not agree with Illegal Immigration, but I don't think that gives anyone the right to disrespect other human beings. We can disagree with respect. What do you think?

I live among and around many people from Mexico. I've never asked them if they were legal or not. I simply know that they work extremely hard. I've seen them have babies and pay the hospitals in cash. I watch their children grow and their parents sacrifice, working day and night to ensure their children's future. They are workers of every sort and merchants to each other. Most of us wouldn't buy the goods they sell in their little markets. I also grew up with them on the border and saw exactly the same thing. I've worked along side them from dawn till dusk and defended our freedom and theirs in service to our country. We all came from somewhere else.
Question:
Would you not agree that from an economic standpoint we'd be better suited to quit farming out our jobs to foriegn countries than to block the Mexicans from entering ours? Would you not agree its a much more productive use of our resources?

It seems that if SS told the INS where all the no-match letters went, it would be easier for the IRS to go after employers who knowingly hire people w/o papers.

Likewise, if all the ITIN mortgages were checked against IRS records, I bet you'd find a lot of "undisclosed" income. How is it legal for a bank to make a loan on a house that the mortgagor isn't even allowed to live in? (Yes, mortgagor is the proper term, the mortgagee is the bank).

so lets deport every illegal alien by the end of the year:
given the fact that U.S. citizens were having to wait almost a year just to get a passport
given the fact that illegals do mostly labor intensive work that the elderly work force can''t do
given the fact that illegals drive down the hourly wage they do work we would do if it paid better
given the fact that unemployment is about 5%
given the fact that our workforce that could or would do the work illegals do is about 100 million
who are we going to replace the illegal workforce with?
we are going to deport 8 to 10 million workers by the end of the year and replace them with 5 million workers who demand a higher wage and many of them just have a poor work ethic.
how much are we now willing to pay for our fruits, vegtables, getting our roofs fixed, carrying out our trash, all of those so called low wage jobs that illegals do.
how is deporting every illegal going to impact you?

As Turkish people move to Europe now in large numbers they bring their culture with them. There is a scary increase in forced "suicides” of women in the primitive belief that it "protects the family’s honour". This is an alternative method of “honour" killing. In reality if Turkey is accepted into the EU we must accept this as a part of European "culture", it shows no signs of being easily stamped out
