I keep reading screeds of excuses for illegal immigration on YA. Supporters of Hispanic illegal immigration claim that Native Americans originally "owned" America. This logic of The Pro Illegal Activists concludes with an ardent belief that Americans have no right to tell foreigners to keep out of the United States...for ANY reason. What do you think of this land rights issue and of the, "This land belongs to everyone," movement?

Tricky area, the native american did live that but there has been migration in many parts of the world. Saying that the USA has the accept all to hispanics is total buls**t. Im not the biggest fan of the USA and the way it goes about some things - but they started out the same as mexico. Kind of a who can build the best country competition, Mexico lost. In this day and age much of the undeveloped world where economies arnt very good (for vary reasons) has just thought- "sod it, lets just go where they have done well". In the UK we have the same thing from eastern europe and many other countries - people come to us because they can make more. They are not here for the sunshine and smiles that much is certain. I dont like seeing people of countries that have f**ked up their economies through corruption, wars and just incompetance, flocking to places where they have done well. The Americans of the past 400 years made america what it is now - not the native americans. Yes it was their land but do you think the mexicans would be as desperate to get there if colonisation had never taken place? We have a large indian population in the uk and ive heard stories about many of them (who never left their culture in india) thinking of heading back to india now that Indian prosperity seems quite likely - i can think of a few words for that kind of attitude.

I cant blame individuals for trying to get to a country that is better off - chances are i would do the same. But if youve done well for yourself you have to put your gaurd up. Why do nice cars have good security systems?

Law breakers have been making excuses for their behavior for centuries. Illegals are no different. The so called native Americans were not the first to settle the land either. They have found proof that Asians crossed the land bridge long before the Indians hunted buffalo. So the excuse illegals use is not valid.

People need to keep in mind that America has come a long way since the days of European colonialism. Populations were not 1/10,000 of what they are now. The idea that this land belongs to everyone is absurd. There has to be regulations in order to maintain the population. For those who believe that "this land belongs to everyone," imagine for a second that anybody that wanted part of your property could just set up shop and claim it as their own. There are laws for a reason, to maintain a balance of control. The people have control over certain things, as does the government. Without control, there would be chaos. Food for thought.

As a sovereign nation, the US has the right to create laws that run the country and protect its citizens as well as the borders of that country. When Mexico opens it's borders and allows illegals in, gives those illegals the same things that many of the illegals here get from us, and when the US is no longer sovereign, THEN and ONLY THEN can the pro-illegals be anywhere near valid in their claims.
As for who OWNS the country...
America owns the country, we earned it with the blood of our forefathers who fought and died for it and for us. How many ILLEGALS did that?

That's a boatload of bull. The only difference between what Europeans did and actions of pre-Columbians is written history.

If (A) there had been no written word until 200 years after Columbus, or
(B), a clear, reliable written history of the peoples of the Americas for a thousand years BEFORE Columbus were available,

...then the atrocities of both would be too similar to consider. There's no indication in all existing, reliable post-Columbian histories of the tribes that they were immune from all things that befall all humans.

Spouting this kind of thing sure makes for opinion-bending press, though, don't it?

Many of my ancestors were Cherokee...

the United States belongs to Americans, if the indians dont want to be Americans, so be it, in that case we took their country from them fair and square. We set the rules here, not "the world", they need to get used to that. The new illegal alien law recently passed in Oklahoma will spreed throughout the rest of the country and we'll settle this issue, once and for all.... I hope.

It's remarkably stupid. The stated logic contradicts itself and raises more questions. So, does it belong to native Americans or everyone? What about Mexico? It was inhabited by native Americans as well. Does that belong to everyone as well? And Canada?

The U.S. is a well established, well recognized sovereign nation. Sovereign nations have the power to decide their immigration policies.

I have read rumors of a supposed Apache-Aztec link, but everything I know about is about the hostilities between the Apaches and the Aztecs North of Chihuahua. http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0014-1801(199121)38%3A2%3C204%3AUGFPOA%3E2.0.CO%3B2-8

including the best known Apache, Geronimo. http://www.firstpeople.us/FP-Html-Legends/Geronimo_His_Own_Story_2g.html

This hasn't stopped the Mexica Movement from using photos of Sitting Bull, Tecumseh and Apache indians in their ridiculous propaganda.

It's a thinly disguised hate speech. A tactic to rid the world of Americans, especially those of certain ancestral backgrounds. All one has to do is go pick up a kid at a California elementary school and see how this country is being taken over. Anyone who could be called American is outnumbered 8 to 1.

I had my parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, immigrate to the U.S.A. They did it right, they put their paperwork in order and became naturalized citizens.

I feel that the immigration problem has made it harder for the hardworking immigrant that wants to be in the U.S. legally.

This land, the USA belongs to those born here and have legally entered!
